Moki Dugway, Utah
4 of us are riding to CO/UT/WY last week of July with backpack tents. The other 3 guys are on HD's. Last time I headed out with these guys an HD rear sprocket disassembled itself before we got too far, so fingers crossed this time. One of the roads in our plan is the Moki Dugway, north of Mexican Hat, UT. 11% grade, gravel, switchbacks. But well graded. I've read about it a few times. Has anyone here been on that road? We will be going up, which I think will be preferable to going down. There is a scenic overlook when you get most of the way up.

Ride through Arches NP if you can.
I wish I had vacation time built up, as this would be a fun trip. Ride through Colorado National Monument. It's called Monument Road. Its just south west outside of Grand Junction. I've been through it on a cage, but on a Victory, it would be bliss. Google map it. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0527...0436,12z?hl=en

When riding on gravel, keep a distance from next bike, keep bike in power (don't lug the engine) and if it get's a little "slick" - try to keep your feet way back on the boards and stand up slightly, just like riding a really big dirt bike - you will be surprised how much the touring bike can "shimmy" around underneath you as you climb the hill. When in doubt - power out!

Looks like a pretty cool place. The view looks awesome!
I'd suggest riding first up the hill.

ZMan - thanks for the tip. We will be in Grand Junction the first week of August. If we have an extra hour, that looks like a great way to spend it!

Try not to use you front brake in gravel. Unfortunately riding in gravel will increase the odds of catching a rock and tearing your belt.

Beautiful breathtaking views on some of the pull off's. The sound of the pipes will echo through the canyons in the park. Hopefully you get to make the ride.

You'd be surprised on how much front brake you can use on gravel, even with a street tire.

My motto - gravel: turn it around! Guess I don't have a dirt bike riding background.

Leaving tomorrow. If we make it to the Moki Dugway, I'll post some pictures with a TCVR shirt. A little gravel has never been a problem, but at my uncle's ranch I once demonstrated how to fishtail a Kingpin through deep river rock on his driveway, followed by demonstrating how to flop the bike over on it's side.
