2014 & 2015 - "do not ride" notice

I just got a call from Victory indicating that:
  • Certain 2014 and 2015 motorcycles are experiencing engine seizing.
  • Riders are being asked to "NOT RIDE" these motorcycles.
  • More information will be coming out in the next several days.
  • The motorcycles will need to be inspected, before being cleared to ride.
  • No information was given to me on exactly what they have found that is causing seizures.
FYI - my bike came off the line on Apr 2nd, 2014.

So, if you have a new bike, and you get a call from an 800 # today... you _might_ want to answer that call...

Wow, just get your new toy in time for the season and then... well at least you have a ride in the meantime.

Maybe get your call in for a scheduling with the dealer just in case (probably already have), or will they do a FIFO recall?

Wonder if they'll ship replacement new engines to the selling dealers or have the dealers rebuild what you have or have a rebuilt swap-out where they do them at Osceola? Hope it's the former or the latter. If it's a lot they may need to establish a separate rebuild line there. Hope it's a very small number affected, like 2.

It's May 1 so it can't be a late April Fools, wish it was for your sake. Sorry Rick! Maybe Ma Vic can sponsor an open bar at Psycho Suzies for those affected.

It sucks but at least they are doing something about it and notifying people. In case some of you don't read other boards this is what Kevinx had to say in thevog.

"This is indeed a VERY real situation. There was a manufacturing issue on bikes built between 1/22/14 and 4/25/14. Victory is scrambleing for a solution as we speak"

That's huge, haven't seen one like this before. When the early trannys were failing there was a published recall. When backrests were breaking and someone touched the pavement it was a recall. Same with several fuel systems issues. All potential disasters waiting to happen handled by written recalls.

This must have been triggered by something pretty serious (not to minimize the others) for them to pick up the phone or maybe they're just being overly sensitive on the heels of the NHTSA investigation of the cracked Vision fenders.

They really didn't need this with everything else happening.

And exactly what is "everything else happening?"

Certainly this is a serious issue, but that doesn't mean that there are a lot of mistakes waiting to happen in the Victory-sphere...

That was before the recall, so I'm sure you were safe!

I'm sure Larry was referring to all the trips I have scheduled so far this year. The Ozarks, the Smokies, Maine, Canada, etc... Thanks for looking out for me, Larry!

Not waiting to happen Joe, just saying they have enough on their plate with the expansion, Vision fender recall, AVR hand-off, new bike development, etc to have this as a distraction. That's just a reality and it seems, if you happen to believe in 3's, they've already had their share.

While I feel for their run of temporary setbacks which all manufacturers have, I feel much more for buyers like Rick who had high expectations, plans and a significant investment derailed by this.

Wife is really happy about just forking out $17k for a bike she can't even ride now. That included a $700 stage 2 tune, which they better be covering in this thing if the motor has to be replaced.

True enough!

I certainly hope they get this worked out for you quickly. It's not a good situation for Victory, but it's a complete suck-fest for you. The last thing you want or expect when you buy a brand new bike that has had a pretty good and uneventful run for the previous 4 years.

I would love to see them make this not only right by getting the engine straigthened out, but with some additional kind of "compensation" for hassle.

Put Amsoil synthetic in and give it hell, you'll be fine.

Maybe not. But about 15 years ago the new Corvettes were having engine seizing problems and in fact the solution was full synthetic oil, still required.
