The 2nd Annual Happy Dan Saddle Sore 1000

It's time to do a group Saddle Sore 1000, again. This is a ride to test your endurance and confidence. We will be riding 1000 miles in less than 24 hours. We will meet at the Perkins in Lakeville, MN on I-35 at 4am. There is a Holiday Station next door that we will be gassing up at and using that receipt as our starting time. KSU from Holiday at 5:17am. We will be riding rain or shine so be prepared to ride in any typical Minnesota weather conditions. Your motorcycle should be road-worthy and have at least 4/32" of tread life remaining on both tires. I suggest that you pack snacks so that they are handy to reach while you are riding. There will be planned gas stops with the longest leg approximately 160 miles. Remember Rule #1 of Iron Butt riding (mine anyway) is to pee at every gas stop. If you don't have to pee, refer to Rule #1. This ride is open to all makes of bikes. This is a good way to get your first Iron Butt stripe and learn what you and your machine are capable of. The cost of the certification is $45.00 and will be collected in the form of a check by me with your filled out IBA documentation within 10 days of finishing the ride. If things go according to plan, we should be back at the Holiday Station around 10:30 that same evening.

Good to hear. I see that the "Steel-Frame SS1K" may be the same day. Maybe we can all celebrate together after the rides.

I'll be pre-riding the route tomorrow if there is anyone that can't make it on the 23rd. KSU at the Holiday Station in Lakeville, by Perkins, at 5:17 am. This pre-ride will still be considered an official IBA ride. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you at 4am, at Perkins, next Saturday!!!

R-R, if you don't mind, I'll have you "tail-gunning" this event.

After pre-riding the route, there are a couple of items that I'd like to discuss. The fall colors have NOT peaked up north. Lot's of Green Bay Packers colors, but not a lot of red or orange, yet. Hwy 1 from Cook to Effie is fun, but I will remind all that are going to be mindful of the 10 mph corners. Also, Hwy 38 from Marcell to Grand Rapids is fairly rough on the right-hand side of the road, so we will be riding singe-file until we exit at the end of the Superior National Forest. We need to adhere to 15 minute gas stops!! The longest leg is approximately 150 miles so there should not be anyone running out of gas.
It's time to start watching the weather. There is chance of rain, so be prepared to get wet.It doesn't look to be any warmer than mid-60's, so bring cold-weather gear. Hopefully, the precipitation prediction is wrong and that it will be dry.
I can't wait. I look forward to seeing you all at Perkins.

Congrats to Haley for her first Iron Butt Ride!

Very cool - I know it's not the first TCVR father-daughter Iron Butt ride; but still awesome!

Well, the @nd Annual Happy Dan Saddle Sore 1000 is in the books. Nothing left but the paperwork. There were 5 of us riders that rode this year. Rockin' Randy (rode tail-gunner), VicMick (3rd SS1K), Ryan Herring (2nd SS1K), Kevin Ling (1st SS1K) and myself. We rode the "Minnesota V for Victory" route so that all wold earn their MN-1000 stripe. Great job gentlemen. I only wish the weather would have cooperated more. Click here for the SPOT Adventure
