Fall Color Run event - Sept 30, 2017

OK, this year for the Fall Colors, we will be running up to the Gunflint Trail and staying overnight at Hungry Jack's Lodge.
  • Date: Saturday, Sept 30, 2017
  • Meet-up Time: 7:30am
  • Meet-up Location: Kwik Trip just West of I-35 on Hwy 97 in Forest Lake
  • Kick Stands Up: 8am Sharp!
  • Lodging: Hungry Jack Lodge, Grand Marais
  • Lodging Website: hungryjacklodge.com/
  • The lodge for dinner.
  • Drinks around the bonfire
  • Lunch stop: TBD in Ely
  • Highlights:
  • Highway 1 between Ely and the North Shore
  • Palisade Head overlook
  • Trail's End - the end of the Gunflint Trail in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area - for the adventurous. Either after the cabin check-in or first thing in the morning.
  • A bon fire without the owner yelling at Mat.

The lodge is on Hungry Jack Lake. It's about 2 miles of gravel off the North side of the Gunflint Trail. There are cabins that fit 4-10 people. The sleeping arrangements for each cabin are listed on the website. Look at the Availability for Sept 30th. Laurie and I have rented the first cabin. I'd like some others to reserve cabins as well. There is tent camping available as well, for those who want it.

Dinner will be at the lodge. I hear it's good.

We can purchase carry out beer and liquor at the lodge for the bon fire. Call the lodge if you want any special request beverages.

PLEASE post up if you are planning on going so we can give the lodge a headcount.

Roy and I will be there. How many does your cabin sleep? Sounds like a lot of fun. Looking forward to it.

A little more info. At the resort, all the cabins have "names"

Thumper and I have reserved the Caribou cabin for September 30th. Cabins Elk, Moose and Hawk are on hold. People do need to call and reserve their individual cabins soon. The owner did not specify how long they would be held so don't miss out!

The cabins indicate maximum # of people per but he did indicate we may want to spread out a bit so everyone is comfortable. For example he said 8 in the Caribou cabin would be ideal with 2 bedrooms and 3 sleeper sofas. Elk cabin 4 (max 6) has 2 bedrooms and a sofa sleeper. Moose and Hawk cabins would be 6 (max 8). Their website does not break down the accommodations for Moose and Hawk but I did see bunk beds (double/queen?) in the Hawk cabin.

The cabins do not have fire pits but the campground should be empty at that time and he said we could use one of the campsites for our evening bonfire. A couple picnic tables will be available for us to use as well. IF the campground does have campers, he will make sure we have a spot somewhere to have a fire.

I’m looking forward to this. It should be beautiful!

Although the website shows as having all the cabins booked, if you call and talk to Forrest or Mary, and mention you are with the motorcycle group, there should still be 3 cabins remaining.

Val and I are interested in going. We need a queen or double bed. Anyone have one available in a cabin already reserved or should we reserve one?

Let me know.

Hungry Jack is a fun place to stay. Been there numerous times on snowmobile trips. Forrest and Mary are good folks. I doubt they will have enough space to accommodate the numbers that went to Copper Harbor though. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I haven't been to Hungry Jack for years. We used to snowmobile in that area.

I may be interested, but I'm also planning another boxcar ride Sept/Oct. I'll probably have to wait until closer to the date to commit and hope that someone wants to share a cabin.

Lodging space will be at a premium. I strongly recommend committing early.

Anyone with a cabin, please post up any beds you are willing to share.

I have a cabin (Caribou) with 2 beds available. 1 queen pullout and a futon, both suitable for up to 2 people each. First 2 people to ask for them on this thread can have them.

I have Hawk Cabin Booked.

Hawk Cabin
Capacity: 8
Hawk Cabin is designed to sleep 2-8, this cabin has two seperate sleeping areas. The bedroom in the front of the cabin has a double bed. In the main room of the cabin there is a double wide bunkbed and a Double pullout sofa. It also has a kitchen, bathroom, gas fireplace, covered porch with a lakeview, BBQ grill and private dock.

The only Bed I won't sleep in is the top bunk bed.

The cost of the room is $180.00. This includes 2 people. Each additional person is $30.00 additional. So if 4 people sleep in the room. Room will cost $240.00. $60.00 a person. Plus taxes and fees if any. Basically we will divide the cost of the room by # of persons.

9990 is my number. Text me or reply if you want to sleep in there.
