MSF Civilian Police Motorcycle Course

Another member and I were talking about taking an advanced rider course. I think it would be cool. He brought up that it would be even cooler to do as a group of friends.

CPMC Course This class is apparently only offered it either Wilmar and Brooklyn Park Tech Colleges. It's a 8-5 class normally held on either a Saturday or Sunday. You take the training on your own bike. And it is NOT for beginning riders! $75

The last local class is a week from Saturday, during the Chili Feed and Wings and Wheels, so I won't be going to that one. But I wanted to throw it out there, gauge interest, and possibly set something up for next Spring. If there is enough interest by March, 2015; I would be willing to see about a TCVR-Only session. ... Though the instructor might be on a hawg. ;-)

Also, if you're an St Croix Valley Rider (SCVR) member, they will reimburse you the cost of the class.

Who would be interested?

A.B.A.T.E. of Minn. (Lake Chapter) usually do a couple of advanced rider courses each year, and this year they also did the Civilian Police Motorcycle Course! They get a group of 12-15 people for the advanced course and the cost works out to around $25.00 per person! But I do think the Police course was the $75.00 a person with no brake down, but I'm not sure. I wasn't planning to take the course at the time, and was not paying that much attention to the topic!

Carolyn and I did the CMPC in 2010. It is a pretty difficult course but well worth it. If you have not taken the advanced course I would suggest that first. I have taken the advanced course several times and that can be challenging enough. I took the advanced course with the Venture Royal which weighs in at close to 800 and the KingPin and didn't have to many problems. The CMPC course with the KingPin was hard. May be because it rained through the entire course. During the break I jumped on the Ninja (before we totaled it) and was able to sail through the parts which I just could not do with the KingPin. The instructor said you should be able to do it with any bike, . If it's the same instructor he purchased a Vision shortly after. He was on a BMW and could really ride that thing. Knowing how you guys ride you probably won't have any problems. We took the course in BRK PK at Hennipin Tech north campus.

LOL - if it's the same instructor, we'll recruit him!

Thanks for the review, Wayne. I've heard similar things from others who've taken that class. It's challenging and rewarding!

I've also heard that it's best to take earlier in the riding season, so that you have more time to leverage your new skills right away - and they integrate into your riding habits.

I'm glad you mentioned the mid-level class. The Confident Riders class is $55, and is a good refresher. It's 5-hours long, and offered at more locations and more frequently.
Confident Rider

So, I'm seeing enough interest, and have a call into a coordinator. I'll post after I talk to the coordinator.

But, please keep replying to this thread if you're interested.

I assume we are going to prefer the Brooklyn Park location? If Willmar I have to think twice about it.

Talked to Bill Shaffer today. He gave me the contact to schedule with Hennepin Tech. Says we can buy a whole class for $500. If we book in the next couple months, we should have no problem picking our date.

90% of the time is riding and practicing.
This is a course specific to Minnesota

10 student riders, 2 instructors. They went to 2 instructors last year.

So, we need to pick a date and our roster. For our date, I was thinking on of the days over Memorial Day weekend or the following weekend (6/6 or 6/7). That way we aren't interfering with the Caterpillar Run, a potential AVSS1K or Father's Day. Also, by having it in later May, anyone who wanted to take the Experienced Rider class would have plenty of time to take that class. Those classes usually start in April.

When we've got 10 people, I'll PM my PayPal account. Sign up below:

1.) Thumper - 5/30, 5/31, 6/1, 6/6 or 6/7 work
