Short in my XC somewhere

Left my bike at work tonight and change of plans for the weekend. looks like I'll be tearing into it at workin the morning. Went to start it tonight and the voltage drops from 12.2 to 6.0 instantly with lots of lovely clicking and flashing of the dash lights. Starter or solenoid maybe? Hopefully its something simple.

Clean your ground battery lead where it attaches to the engine.

I second what what Sparky said. (in fact, he was the one that found my issue Clean with a wire brush or file. Don't forget the dialect grease too.

I had the same issue with the Vision a couple years ago. The bad ground made the electronics go haywire! Cleaned it up real good and wa-lah - all better.

That is now on my 2 year preventative maintenance cycle.

Do not know about star washers. They allow water to sit under. Best is to clean, grease and tighten down to prevent water from being able to oxidize the aluminum.

connections are good, didnt want to tear into to much in my parking lot at work so trailered it home. going to start digging into it tomorrow but its a weird one. turn the key on and the voltage drops to about 6 then starts jumping all over the place between 4 and 11 volts and when I switch to run, it almost looks like im doing a load test. don't smell or feel any hot wires. thinking solenoid, starter or maybe even a short in the battery.

I am going to bet on the star washer and water. Clean well and dielectric grease and good to go. No more star washers all from my easy chair. :-)

My Vision did the same things when it was a bad ground connection. The electronic windshield even started going up and down in it's own!
