Riding Season's Open - 2014

I officially declare: 2014 Riding Season in the Twin Cities

The roads are surprisingly good considering the Winter we have had. Considering we still have 2-feet of snow on the ground, the sun feels INCREDIBLY GOOD!

After my first ride today, I dropped off the Gerbings and helmet and did another 20 miles. I'm very glad I did.

Thanks, Happy Dan, for leaving Minnesota. Mother Nature can finally be nice to us now.

I am thinking about registering my Yamaha and getting that working if I have time this week. Right now I would not want to take my Vic on the streets. Lots of salt. BUT the Yamaha, I want to turn that into a rat bike so a little salt will help the cause :)

AWWWWRIGHT Rick!

Great picture. You hereby are awarded the "What winter riding can do" award. Who needs an IBA when you have these? Similar smiles too :D

JoeGopher 03-10-2014 03:40 PM

Well Done Rick!!!

I saw three sport bikers on 494 yesterday afternoon and a guy on a cruiser about 10 minutes later heading north on Cedar.

Still a little early for me, but as the Aussie's say - "Good On Ya, Mate!"

Yea! Riding time!

That is 3 of you that got out today. Time to come home I guess. :dogRunN:

sks700 03-11-2014 07:58 AM

I was thinking I might get out this morning since the roads looked pretty good on the way to work last night. I came home to 2 feet of snow in front of the garage door where it slid off the roof. :poop:

I only saw Kyle and I. Who else got out yesterday?

Crimsonaro 03-11-2014 02:32 PM

Jealous.

Can only get out in my dreams. Gravel road is icy/mud soup. Be awhile yet.

Awesome y'all could.

KillerX 03-11-2014 05:25 PM

Ted got out yesterday.

sks700 03-11-2014 06:10 PM

I got out today for about 20 miles. So did Mr Expert. :-)

Grasshopper 03-11-2014 06:33 PM

Not willing to ride to and from work in the melt slop, but I fully plan to get out this weekend. I have Thursday & Friday off.

Good work Rick, Kyle, Lee & Ted.

Mr. Expert 03-11-2014 09:17 PM

Yep couldn't wait no longer put a quick 20 on tonight before grilling out for the first time this year.

Viclvr 03-12-2014 07:33 AM

Ride yesterday! WOO HOO

Got home and found the road to the main line was all clear,, grabbed my stuff and rode up to Onamia and back! SURE great to get out,,, crazy thing was its 25 degrees warmer than when I got back from Ark in October! 1st 80 miles of the year :D Life IS good!

Watch for them potholes! The city streets are in worse shape then the country roads.

A motorcyclist died Tuesday from injuries sustained after hitting a pothole on I-394 and being ejected from the motorcycle around 10 p.m.

Thumper 03-12-2014 08:42 AM

Thanks for the warning, Kent. Potholes sure can be a problem, especially the ones disguised as puddles.

But, honestly, this is the first time I ever hear of a Pothole being blamed for a person's death! Wow. Dude was an experienced Yamaha R1 racer, too!

And, lets not forget that 11 other motorists died in MN in the last 10 days. Use appropriate caution, absolutely. But I sure ain't going to live in a bubble. Getting out on Monday felt soooo damned good!

I think you can add a few more names to that. One of them has to be the ONE. Rockin Randy, Johnny Ritz and IBVic.

6 inches down and 43 temps for a few more days. Lovin the forecast.

Not sure trailering bikes down to Georgia and riding south from there counts for much.:floor:

Check what I quoted and I wrote again Kyle, I think you will agree. LOL.

Battery is charged, that bad clutch cable will be fixed on Wednesday. The it's just a matter of getting the ice out of the parking lot here at the apartment, and that's just about done.

SirPoonga 03-30-2014 07:26 PM

Took the Vic out today. Just down the street and back to get it warmed up. The roads around here are horrible. We need a good rain to wash all this crap off the road.

Gibby 03-30-2014 08:09 PM

I went Manning to 61 and then left to Prescott, then down WI 35 to Nelson and back across the river to Wabasha. Turned around and came back the same way. Did that yesterday and today, nearly 400 miles, then washed the bike and put it back in it's nice heated parking spot.

MattVegas 03-30-2014 08:36 PM

After getting my new exhaust and timing wheel installed today I had enough time to put in my first 5 miles today! My baby runs like a raped ape! Can't wait for clean roads!:git:

Scubadude 03-30-2014 09:26 PM

Got out and rode from Mpls to Waterville to Jordan to Belle Plain, then back to Mpls. Roads I was on are clean and relatively pot hole free. Except the ramp from 169 North to Crosstown East. Thought I was gonna get bucked by a pothole there, but I made it.

Northstarr 03-31-2014 08:25 PM

Got on 61 in Stacy, headed north to Hinkley, then across the St Croix River into Danbury Wi, took WI 35 down to Taylors Falls, then the St Croix Trail (95) back NE thru North Branch and Harris, then across back towards home... a nice 250 mile putt, just enough to scratch the itch.

Roads weren't too bad, a lot of water from melt off in some areas, some more good soaker rains will help a lot.
