Anyone know the wiring code for the rear lights/brakes of the Victory? I am planning on installing a trailer harness soon.

I have the book but have to go to work now so can not look as it is 6AM. If no one else answers before tonight I can look it up. There are folks who have done wiring back there, I think Don083 has.

Roadkill has illustrated directions in his image album "victech trailer_wiring". He's still in the process of annotating and hasn't added words yet, but he'd might annotate it if you asked him.

Yeah, I know the pics are there...first place I looked, actually. I know Roadkill used an actual harness adapter, but I've been on the phone with HitchDoc and Cycle-Mate (the company that makes the trailer I'm purchasing), and they believe that the trailer can be wired into the bike without the separate relay unit. I don't want to bother RoadKill with this if I don't have to...he's busy enough with life as it is.

Chris, you can just splice into the rear light wires for the trailer wiring. I'm not at home right now, but will take a look at the wiring diagram when I get home. Which Cycle-mate trailer you looking at? Hil and I bought the CM2000 early this spring...haven't pulled it yet, but think we're going to really like it.

Just got home and was thinking...you have an '00 don't you Chris? I wonder if the wire colors are different. Might be better off checking with Tom, I'd hate to give you the '99 wires and have it short something out on you.

Steve's right, my book is a 99 too so could be wrong as well. Don't mind this overtime as long as the weather is bad. Worked all weekend and am bushed. I now know I am not a kid anymore.

I'm buying a slightly used CM2000 LTD from a guy in Oklahoma (thank goodnness for CycleTrader.com!)

Well, I'd surely appreciate the wiring colors just for the heck of it. I'm wiring in the 5 wire harness, and I'm going to guess mine will be similar to yours, Steve.

Who did the wiring for you? Yourself or Tom?

The only reason I was worrying about splicing in was the potential for messing up the self-canceling turn signals, that's all.

I'll dig out the wiring diagram tonight and post. I wired mine in myself...you bring up a good point on the self-cancelling feature. Like I said I haven't pulled it yet so I'm unsure if that's been affected.

OK Chris, here it goes(if my eyes don't fail me). Remember this is from a '99 now!

Left turn...blue/red wire
Right turn...sky blue wire
Tail light...brown wire
Brake light...white wire
Ground...(I mounted my ground to the frame under the right side cover)

Where I spliced in was JUST in front of the connector under the seat for the rear lighting. I used wire nuts only because I didn't have a soldering gun handy, but would solder them if I were you. The wires from the bike are very small in diameter so they're kind of hard to work with.

The wire from your 5-pin connector are:

Yellow...left turn
Green...right turn
Brown...tail light
Blue...Brake light
White...ground

Hope this helps!

Good news...the trailer harness is wired, and everything seems to be running just fine (phew!). I'm a music teacher, not a mechanic, although all those years on the model railroad were sure worth it.

Steve, a couple of more "public" questions for you, as others might eventually want to know this information.

1) Hitch-Doc...Does it install on top of the fender bars, or underneath?

2) How did you run the trailer harness from the seat to the end of the hitch...did you zip-tie it in place, or is there another secret?

3) Regarding the wiring itself...is there a specific "wire shelter" I should use for the cables, or is wrapping the wires with electrical tape good enough? Enquiring minds want to know!

Thanks,

Chris

The hitch mounts over the top of the fender rails. I removed the rails at first, only to discover they needed to be there as spacers. I wrapped the wiring with electrical tape and rolled it up and tucked it under my right side cover. When I pull the trailer I thought I would zip-tie it along the top of the hitch and follow the contour down the fender and zip-tie it again. One good thing about having a black bike is the tape will match so it won't be too obvious!
