Well here is my review of the Vegas rental while in Vegas.
We arrived at EagleRider at 9AM to get my bike. So did all of the other renters for the day. We waited in line for 45 minutes before we were out of there. I was the only guy who rented some other type of bike. The place was total chaos. Some of the bikes from the day before were not back yet so some customers were not happy. Others were frustrated because their rental bikes were broke or would not start. There were a ton of different HD bikes in the back, but apparently these customers must drive the exact same bike that they have at home.
After the paperwork was done I waited out front for them to bring around the Vegas. The guy pulls it around and there was a silence that took over the crowd. It was a silver bike that had the chrome forks and the custom wheels. I wish it had the stage I kit but hey, it’s a rental. As I mounted the bike to ride off everybody was in awe. I didn’t have time for autographs so off I went.
Drove up the strip and then through downtown. At every stoplight people looked at this bike. I couldn’t believe it! Despite its quite sound, I was able to light up the tires and scoot down the street.
We stopped at this ½ ticket place next door to the Harley Davidson restaurant. I parked the bike in front of the HD place and grabbed a soda while Becky went and waited in line. Again, people were looking the bike over. This time people were asking questions about what this great looking ride was all about. I even had a guy come up to me from Cali and tell me that he bought a 1200 Sportster that he had $19,000 into. I had to tell him that he could get this bike the way it sat for around $15,000. And the Vegas had a much larger engine. Oh, we bought tickets to Van Halen (it was great!) and the Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children (snooty crowd, another tax deduction).
I stopped at the Victory dealer Pat Clark Motorsports. They had about 15 bikes outside in front and a few more inside, including the 2005 8-Ball and the Anniversary TC’s. I was glad to see the Big Dogs in the back, Victory’s up front. They said they are doing really well with Victory. They had a couple used Vegas that were good deals.
Left there and drove up to Mt Charleston. This ride took me from hot Vegas to 8500 feet and cold as hell. I was wondering why all the bikers I saw coming back from this place had on full leathers. I was simply wearing a Victory tee-shirt and jeans. Nonetheless I made the trek.
While coming down the north side of the mountain I decided to play some on the Vegas. There was no traffic on the highway so I thought I would try some burnouts. I rev’d it up and dropped the clutch while trying to hold the front brake. This was working out Ok until the last time when I screwed up and grabbed the front brake stopping the bike suddenly. I slid up the low gas tank on the Vegas and “racked” myself. Ouch, I stood there in pain. Slowly I decided to move on down the road. The next car I passed was a Sheriff. Maybe someone was trying to stop me from playing around.
I returned the Vegas to Eaglerider this morning after getting in a couple hundred miles of riding on Saturday. And again all of the other riders waiting to take off were in awe at this bike. EagleRider could use some help in organizing how they rent their bikes. It was not easy to do.
Here is my review of the Vegas. I loved the lower seat height. So did my wife as it was very easy for her to get on/off the bike. But that stock seat was not very comfortable. The chrome front end and the wheels were real attention grabbers. The stock handle bars are a stretch for my short arms. I wished it had a windshield. Not bad on the city streets without it, bet when I hit the highway the road rocks hurt. And the wind blowing over the ears at 75mpg is very loud. It needs a windshield. The front pegs are cool to have, but they do not feel as comfortable as my flat floorboards on my Classic Cruiser. Stage I kits are the only way to ride. I have got to have the sound.
I further like my Classic Cruiser. But might add the 8-Ball as my Saturday Night Special.
