I don't have any personal experience in this problem, but I have read several posts and the price you are talking about sounds pretty reasonable compared to what I have seen. You can do a search on : www.thevmc.com

If this is done under warranty, it should all be covered but other will tell you more. I do not believe belt will not covered though. It is a wear item. You will like the new tranny for sure.

I did a search here and found this.

hats off to Warners gang and Victory for getting me back on the road. Now i have a 2003 tranny in my 2001 kyso blue deluxe,Victory paid for the parts(1800.00)and i paid for the labor(1000.00)even tho i had no warranty left!!Now that's what i call standing behind your product.

Steve, It was an extended warranty repair. The tranny has been acting up for awhile, doing all kinds of funky things. It's a good thing I checked my warranty papers....the time was almost up!

Cost to me was a $25 deductible. + oil & filter.

The Tranny job is $2600 parts & labor.

mnstimpy,

I have to agree with the others...is your 99 still under warranty? Most are no longer under warranty, and in fact, my own extended warranty (2000C) expires in August of this year.

No, the sprockets and belt are not covered in the transmission change, as they were not covered with my tranny update. Granted, the 2000 has the "new" belt and sprocket which is still in use (although a different color), but at 34K I had to replace the rear sprocket as it was worn and squeaking. It started doing so around 30K.

I can't find my reciept for when the Tranny was replaced.

At any rate, last July, the rear sprocket was $225; the Belt $171 (with dealer discount) and labor was $90. I did not have to replace the front sprocket.

Sprockets and belts are considered "consumables" on a motorcycle.

So, $800 is pretty reasonable. There are benefits to the new sprocket/belt, one which is that it is more durable than the 99 belt.

Good luck!

When you get the trans upgrade on a '99 the kit includes a new rear pulley, drive gear, and the kevlar belt. If you are under warranty yet, these things should be included...but maybe things have changed over the past couple years with the warranty company. At $800 it's still well worth it for the upgrade! Don't forget to have them install the Andrews PL402 cams while it's tore down...nice improvement over stock.

If you have a '99 and no warranty, you will pay labor only no parts. The tranny upgrades are the '03 units that come with new front and rear pulleys and the new style kevlar belt.
ONLY the '99 bikes get the new pulleys and belt with the tranny up-grade. You will also get hit on paying for new Vic oil and a filter.

p.s. - Were digging out of 16.2 inches of new phuckin snow that fell yesterday!

That means I'll have to throw the knobby back on the Tourist Trap!

MNstimpy,
I too have a 99 and the pulleys and belt should be covered as they are the old kind and have sice been upgraded (I believe in 00)
Warner's did mine and all I had to pay was oil and filter, nothing else. Tom turned it for me really fast too.
Good luck, and it is worth it.

Stimpy,

Don't accept any tranny other than the 2003 model (or 2004 model, if they are offering it).

That's all I have to say on the matter.

:gunrev: i was the lucky 2001 vic that the tranny exploded in and i got the 2003 tranny because there were several changes made and there is a big difference, taller gearing meaning more rpm between shifts, smoother shifting, quieter. The 2001 tranny 3rd gear exploded, metalurgical failure, try for the 03 tranny

Hmmm...I'm wondering which dealer this is! Something smells fishy here.

I agree Swiffer.
stimpy, don't accept it unless it is an '03 or newer. Even then, you still wouldn't have to pay for sprockets or a belt, as your current ones will NOT match up.

Something smells really fishy around here...if you have any doubt, CALL WARNER's OUTDOOR, they are very good! If they are not in your area, Miess is good too from what I hear...

yea steve it has been fishy from the get go, but i called and i am getting the 03 tranny and i was told that is why i need the gears is cause they have to change the tranny case and the shaft splines dont match, and i wish i would have went to warner, thanks REN

The '03 kit comes with the gears and belt MN, don't let them tell you otherwise!

As long as they ordered the kit for a '99...I'm wondering if they didn't order one up for a later bike.

Isn't wonderful to have a dealer who's word you can trust? Bummer on the changes in the insurance coverage after the fact that the tranny's were weak. That is what one buys insurance for.
