OK guys, a little input here.

I see the new VRA (Neil?) scheduled a ride the same weekend as the caterpillar run. Does anybody want to change ours so that we can do both? Or do we go with the dates that we have already set? I guess that I like our date and we can go on the second VRA ride (can't remeber the date) up to the Fargo area:confused:

Anybody have any strong feelings one way or the other?

Hey Lee,

Didn't even know there were already VRA rides planned! Where are you getting the ride dates...is there a list somewhere?

If the 1st VRA ride and the caterpillar ride were separate consecutive weekends...I'ld probably only make the caterpillar run anyways so my vote doesn't count for much!

We had the caterpillar run scheduled first...I vote we do that and try and hook up for the next VRA ride.

Is it too early to figure on a meeting place and time yet? I would much rather someone else led going up this year...I'm much more comfortable following than leading. Anybody heard if Pete will make it again? How 'bout Cameron and Julie, haven't seen anything from them in a Loooong time.

We can meet at the HD place again and as for leading, anyone that wants to came take the lead. I know Lee knows the way. I know how to follow 169 up to Naswauk, I think.

Last year a group of Victory riders met up on a Saturday morning in Elk River. We rode north to Garrison and stopped there for breakfast and to meet up with another rider from Brainerd. After breakfast, we continued north. We rode up to Nashwauk (near Grand Rapids) to the Victory dealer there. We also met up with more riders from that area. We then rode farther north through more great country. We stopped at a little bar\Restaurant for some socializing. Those that had to head back left after this and the rest of the group continued north. At the end of the day, we ended up at my house/cabin/hunting shack in Big Falls (near International Falls). We had dinner/drinks and more socializing. We spent the night there and heaed back towards the Cities sunday morning via a different route. We stopped in Northome for breakfast and to dry out(we got a little rain) LOL. We then headed south through some of the lake country. Back down through brainerd and that area. (the routes that we took for the whole weekend had been plotted out by different people that were familiar with the areas and they would lead us through their part). We arrived back to the Elk River area in the evening (with people splintering off as they reached the routes that they need to take home. It was a great weekend with some really top-notch people!! I hope that we will have even more riders this year.

It is called the Caterpillar Run because the ground/trees/buildings were covered with Army Worms (and so were the bikes when we got done.

Ridefree, will you be going to Spirit Lake? Some of us will be staying at the Super 8, and I expect that the conversation will probably include some planning for the run.

Any more ?'s, just post.

Anybody else that was ther last year, feel free to add as you see fit.

OK folks, before we know it June 8th will be upon us! I need another ride to focus on:D , so what time should we meet up at Zylstras? Has ANYBODY seen or heard anything from Scooter Tramp? Last time I was at Magnum's they said Cameron and Julie stop in once in awhile, so I know there still around. It was fun the way they hooked up with us on the road last year.

Last year when we were up there, there was some kind of ride or rally going on the same weekend. Does anybody know if that will be the same weekend again this year?

You must be talking about the "Ride The Range Ride", right?

Then the answer will be yes it IS June 8th.

Ride the Range is on June 8th and you can check it out at:

www.ridetherange.org

It starts in Chisholm which is only about 20 miles from Nashwauk. It winds around the range and goes to Fortune Bay Casino for lunch at 2:00 pm. You could leave from there and head to Big Lake? by International Falls when done with lunch(about 80-90 miles). Alot of Harleys, so it would be nice to have some Victory's in the ride. Getting ready for my Dad's 80th birthday party......so don't know if I can make the ride......but could meet you at
Fortune Bay if you decide to do the run. That is where we are planning to have his party!!! I should be able to find you easier there then at Spirit Lake....you will be riding Victory's......makes it alot simpler. ;)

ok all, the run is coming quick. I would like to get a rough idea of the number to plan for. This is who I think are planning on it so far.

Sparky and Heidi
Don Vanderwall
Randy (quickvic)
Sid
Jim and Phylis
Jim and Bobbi
Pete (ghost)
Don and Linda
Steve and Hillary
Jim and Amy
Graemike

If you are planning on going along and your name isn't listed or you are listed and can't make it please let me know. Also, I know that Steve and Hillary are planning on camping to try out the new trailer. Could the rest of you let me know if you will need inside overnight storage (no i'm not talking about your bike) or if a can plan on just rolling you under a tree.(LOL)

Thanks,

Let's have some more chatter on the route. There was talk about going with the Ride The Range group to the Falls then back down. Is this what is going to happen or are we going to go up 38 past Jim's place. How about the bar we signed the roof at. grin

Going to be gone this weekend. Ride down to Algona to check out the ABATE land there one day too.

It would sure be nice to stop at Deer Lake Charlies again...nice place. When we get to 38, be sure you all wait for me at the end, I'm sure with the trailer I won't be running the twisties none too quick;)

Hi everyone....
Been busy here....and have just been added to the call list (phone company call list....we take turns with weekends doing trouble calls and whatever else pops up)...guess what my first weekend is?....June 8-9th.:( I'm not sure what I'll be able to do that Saturday....we won't be able to spend the night unless you all camp here at our place:) . I'm hoping that I'll be able to sneak away and we can at least ride the Nashwauk to Effie route together.
So I'll just throw this out...If anyone is interested, we could have a pit stop at our place (I'll be close to the phone and computer in case all hell breaks loose)...maybe even a cookout or whatever suits anyone's fancy....not to steal anything away from you, Lee....but would love to see everyone that weekend.
Let me know what you think...

Jim and of course, my ol' gal Bobbi

I assumed we fed the Mosquitoes so they could hatch a new batch. I think maybe just maybe I need all my blood to help heal my bypass and I need to be indoors to keep as much as possible. Please hold an indoor bed for me. I promise to keep the snoring to a low rumble. Nothing like those drag pipes without baffles. Can't wait to ride.

we could ride 38 OR do part of the Range Ride, but not both in the same day. We could ride to the Casino sat. and then ride 38 ( and stop and visit Jim and Bobbi) on the way back home on Sun.
The range ride will be at the casino for lunch at 2:00, we could easily make it to Magnums and then the casino if we left Elk River around 8:00. We would then leave from the Casino to head toward Big Falls. This is just a suggestion, anybody please feel free to comment and vote yes or no. Also, this is an open invitation to anybody else who may be lurking, please come join us on this ride, we had a ball last year and want to make this year even better.

Sure wish you could find a way to make it! Ok, I need coffee and I need it bad:( . Hope everyone here decides to go, it's a fun ride. I don't know how to do the fancy map like Sparky did for us, but here is the proposed route. We went up to Big Falls this weekend and drove MOST of the route. Meet at Zylstra Harley in Elk River at 8:00. Ride north on 169 to Garrison and stop there for breakfast and to meet up with the ghost? and maybe others? After breakfast continue north on 169 past Aitkin to co rd 3. (210 is closed between 169 and 65. The detour is 47 south of Aitkin and we took that this weekend, but looking at the map it looks like 3 would work better for us). We'll take 3 to Palisade, then 232 to 65. That will put us on 65 just south of Big Sandy Lake and we can stop there again like last year. Then continue on 65 to Nashwauk. After a visit at Magnum, we will continue up 169 to the casino. (there doesn't seem to be a good alternative to 169, it is down to one lane each way for a 16 mile stretch between Chisholm and Virginia, but it isn't torn up). Leaving the casino we will take 1 west to 53, 53 north to 74,74 west to 65,65 north/west to 31, and 31 west into Big Falls. Total milage from Elk River to Big Falls should be 330-350. Obviously, we will need to add some fuel/rest stops. Anybody have any comments, questions or suggestions on this route?

Took some new ones and looking forward to are ride this weekend. Connie and maybe her hubby Randy will be making the ride as well. Lee has to call her with details as she for some strange reason can not get the messages in this forum to display on her "mac".

Just got home, made supper, ate and read the latest , now got to see the missus as I have been missing her. We are still newly weds and hope to be for years and years to come. Bye now. :)

Kurt, why not swap out the TPS yourself...takes about 1/2 hour to do. If it turns out NOT to be it, you're only out $30, but if it does fix the problem, you don't have to wait on the dealer to get to it.

Hi Steve, I've thought of that and dismissed it right away. I have over a year and a half left of warranty and as a mechanic I deal with people messing with problems they would better leave to the dealer on a daily basis. When the warranty is up then I will play.

OK, here's what I have so far.

Sparky & Heidi
Jim & Phyliss
Steve & Hillary
Jim & Amy
Sid
Me (lee)
Randy
Pete will meet us part way
Don & Linda will meet us part way
Don V says that he is about 50/50 (not sure)
Connie (Connie Cruiser) & her husband (Randy?) may join us
A guy where I work (Sal) (he was at Spirit Lake on the black '99 with ape hangers) is going to ride part way.
A couple of others may tag along for at least a part.

If I missed anyone, or if anyone else is interested, you are more than welcome to join us. Just post here or send me an e-mail.

On another note, and as a reminder, the lodging is "dormatory style", meaning that there are several beds in each room. Unless you are an exhabitionist, you will probably want something to sleep in. Also, most of the pillows up there kinda suck (the rest of the bedding is ok) so if you have room, you may want to bring one along.

I had planned on riding north with you guys this weekend, at least to Garrison, but my bike has problems.
I was down shifting from third to second, and the tranny locked up. It was kind of a thrill as I skidded to a stop. The back tire just stoped dead.
I probably have a bald spot on my new tire. I am taking it to Warner's tonight.
You guys have a safe trip. This is the first weekend I didn't have to work this spring, so I thought I could ride along for a while. That's way life goes sometimes.

Enjoy Tom

I was down shifting from third to second, and the tranny locked up. It was kind of a thrill as I skidded to a stop. The back tire just stoped dead.
I probably have a bald spot on my new tire. I am taking it to Warner's tonight.
You guys have a safe trip. This is the first weekend I didn't have to work this spring, so I thought I could ride along for a while. That's way life goes sometimes.

Enjoy Tom

Steve, I did see you driving to work one day this spring, and it was cold. I was in my car with the heater on.

Tom, sorry to hear about your bike...but at least you may get the '02 tranny:) . I'm just glad to see a post from you! Thought maybe you moved out of the country or something:rolleyes: . Maybe you can ride down to Kansas with us after Tom gets that new transmission in for you!

Yes...the infamous caterpillars are out.....they are just starting due to the prolonged cold weather. What a drag...9 months without leaves and those little $#%@^ come along to chomp up the new growth. I was doing a locate for the phone co. today by Arcadia Lodge on Turtle Lake ( where they actually used the beautiful vista as a backdrop in the Hamm's beer ads where the glass is dancing above a lake coming towards you)...anyway, the caterpillars are cruising across the highway, the droppings are quite audible from the trees, and there are gobs of clusters of the rotten things in the trees. They are not not in full swing yet...so the roads will be much better this year than last.
It looks like the only chance I'll get to see anyone will be to meet up at Magnum's...anyone have a time?
Otherwise, if everyone would like to swing by on Sunday we will serve rolls, coffee and red wine for Bill (heh heh).
I'll be looking for any responses here...
Take care...

The plan is to stop by your place Sun morn Jim. Thanks for the offer!!

On another note, Spary and I met another rider from the Rapids area tonight. Sparky gave him the website info and he will hopefully check it out. It also sounds like he may ride with us for a while this weekend.

We'll see you Sunday morning! We'll have coffee and rolls and who knows what else ready for you. Hope the weather holds and you all have a nice ride. Wish we could attend....
Sparky and Steve know the way to the ranch. Remember, Scenic 7 is gravel the first seven miles out of Bigfork (c'mon tarring crew!)
But we're only 4 miles out....we'll leave a reminder out on the road of where to turn south just to make things simpler.

Have fun everyone!

4 miles of gravel???? Ya better leave something more than as reminder out for us...... how about 4 miles of red carpet or a
l o n g coat laid down.

We will be there..... bell on or horns blaring. I'm packed BUT riding solo....

Got to gas and head up for the meeting. Hey guys watch out for "ghosts" on the road.

Since I couldn't go with you guys, I was hoping that SOMEONE would post if the ride was going alright.. I have been watching the storms on the radar here and keeping all of you in my thoughts, wishes, prayers, crossed-fingers etc...

On the bright side - I just hit the starter button on BigFoot about 15 minutes ago and he roared to life! :bounce:

We make it home at 4:40. A slight delay in Funkley, MN. with extreemly heavy rain. Hung out in a little bar owner unlocked door at 9:ish to let us in. The closer we got to home the more rain had fallen in our area. Lots of heavy flooding in QuickVic's area, hope all is well at his house. We heard that the Ada, MN area got upwards of 6" of rain. We got somewhere around 3+. More later we are dead tired.

Hope Sid and all made it home too.

Thanks Lee!

Jeff and I arrived in Maple Grove about 4:10 or so. Almost had a heat stroke in Zimmerman. We were riding with full rain gear and winter clothes when we passed a group coming out of town in t-shirts. Next thing we know we are in 90 degree weather. We made a stop at a way side rest dirobed and continued on. I took a shower and feel much better but now its time for the heating pad and the bed. All in all this was a great ride. What a learning experience. Fixation could kill. Ride your own corner and don't watch the guy in front of you. And most of all DON"T FREAK until after you have negotiated the turn. Thanks Lee and all for welcoming Jeff into our riding group. He said to my wife "great group of freinds".

Hi all,

I got home around 8ish, I made a couple of short stops after splitting off. Sparky got his belt changed in pretty good time (pics to follow) and then the Ghost led us around some very pretty but extremely windy country down to St Cloud. Sid, hope you are feeling better and thanks for the lesson for all of us. (you could have just told us "don't do this"!!). Everybody else thanks for making the ride. This is a great group of people!!!

Later,

Glad to see everyone made it home. Pulled in the drive about 9:20 (again). Had a great time.

Sid, hope your feeling better. Thanks for the lesson but I sure didn't need the demonstration. Tell Jeff thanks for letting us hang out with him.:) If I didn't see it myself, I'd swear he rode a Vic - great guy.

Don, Linda, and Randy, I heard you ran into a little rain. Also heard the Ada area was getting hammered. Glad to see you made it home safe.

Lee, thanks for the hospitality and the great ride. Looking forward to next year's ride.

Sparky, you remember that spare belt I had? Well, just before I got into town... Good thing I was wearing a belt but that buckle makes one heckuva racket as it goes around the front sprocket.

And to the rest, thanks for a great weekend. It was great seeing everyone again.

Thank you all for a great weekend and many memories. Lee you put on a great ride again and I think your sheriff will be looking forward to the friendly biker gang again. He probably will not put his bullet in the gun next year.

A special thanks to Pete for the spare belt and the use of his garage and tools. Also for the thoughtful glass of lemonade out of now where when it was needed most. Also want to thank Lee, Steve, Hilary and Jim for coming to Pete's with me and lending a hand but most of all the moral support and advice in getting my belt installed. Really felt good to have friends like you there.

I will post more later but got home just before 9PM and had to change oil, unpack and fill Heidi in. Also warned Blaze about dangers on the streets.

Thumper, with my post you now know ALL that were on the ride are home safe and tired except FramyJim, we have NOT heard from him .

Nite!!!

Fixation and Fear. Two deadly enemies of any ride especially in the twisties. We hit an S or multiple S set of turns. The first two had good rythm to them but all of a sudden there was a third just as we were excelerating out of the second. I saw Jim and Phylis throwing sparks and kept my eyes on them to long. I realized I was out of my line to navegate the corner and freaked. I think I was trying to lay it down some more when I saw the white side line of the curve and then the OH SHIT I am going to crash happened. And I crashed. Slid out from the bike and came away with minor damage to both me and the bike. So far just very very sore and an eye that is getting black. My Vic came through with a scraped fender, a pushed in head light, a cow catcher windsheild that saved the front end by obsorbing a lot of shock and a hard bag that need a paint job.
After Sparky test drove her she was ready for me again. She is truly a sweety and she will be as pretty as before as soon as I get time to get her in the shop. I am doing fine and should be back on the road any day now. Thanks to the great riding buds (That means guys and gals) for all the support in getting me back in the saddle. Special thanks to Hilary and Sparky for your personal attention.

Made it home, but missed our daughter, so we could have stayed with the group. Thanks Lee for a great time.
SPARKY-did you make it home ok? I was thinking of you the rest of Sunday hoping the belt hung in there.
Sid Hope your feeling ok-looking forward to our next ride! Also thanks for bringing Jeff, he's a really nice person, fit into the group without missing a beat.

Just wondering, would you guys be interested in a weekend trip into southern Wisconsin? I know some really neat and pretty areas that way, could organize it if there is interest. Let me know. Jim

We had not heard from QuickVic so I called him last nite and he said he had to leave his vic at his brothers place as there was to much water around his area to ride it home, lots of water..

He also is without his computer as there was a power spike that smoked it.

Don have you heard from Randy yet. Could he really get to his house or were his roads washed out?

Sid, laughed about the heat stroke. Watched Lee and the others do a slow strip tease driving close to the Twin Cities. Each stop shed another piece.

MrHawk, I said you would not even get to put 4.2 I put in 4.02 the next morning.

Lee, speaking about the belt putting on, what kind of time did it take? I wish that I had taken the chaps and sweatshirt off before I started cause once I did my hand were so dirty I could not touch them to take them off. Man the shower sure felt good after getting home.... :) Those were some great little town and back road Pete took us down.

Peter again thanks for the use of your belt. I will have to post a picture of you with your pants around your ankles after you gave it up.

Sid, we are glad you are in good spirits as well as good health. I can only say that I am glad that it was colder out that day then normal or we would have had Sid in his sex appeal outfit (http://198.144.10.254:92/Victory/caterpillar2001/2001-06-09_012.jpg) and we still would be up there picking out rocks.

Don just read the post about Randy so forget about the question in the beginning of this post. Thought that that could have happened seeing the pictures on the news about his area. Bummer on the computer loss too. When it rains it pours..... is that CATS and dogs, Linda?

Hey LadyBug, what do you mean rain. We did not have rain, Don, Linda and Randy had rain. We just put our raingear on for warmth. They needed outriggers.

Last but not least, JimBob. I am really sorry we were not able to make it over to your place. I would have loved to have had the group see your house. It is so great. And I know that you guys had bought the food and were looking forward to having the gang over and then things changed with the weather. BTW Did you get any of the heavy rains there?

Well Randy said he did the VRA run in Chicago then drove hard to do the 2nd caterpillar Run. Well his pictures were posted from there, can you find Randy? You can see here how slow the download time can get if you up load pictures larger then 800x600 like JohnRitter was asking. These are 1600x1200. Too bad Frank did not mention that Randy rode all the way from the other side of Minnesota to do his ride.
What sa wrong with you Frankie? Eh, Frank my Amico, give a our boy Randy a little credit for making the ride out ta there. One a paisano to a nother paisano!
