Had a nice weekend of riding ( until Sunday). Went to Magnum on Friday and had Keith clear the "chk eng" display. Seems like everytime I have low battery it does that. But it still ran great.
Got to test ride a red Vegas...nice bike, but I like mine better!
Then on Sunday a very good friend of mine wanted to take our Vic for a short putt ( to see if he wanted a Victory). Hmmm, he didn't come back right away. Checked down the road and there he was pushing the bike along. Blew the belt....Augh!!
That's the last time I let someone take it out ! Had to leave it in Effie for the night and transported it back to the garage Monday morning. The rotten thing is that he didn't have a shred of remorse over popping it. Now it's $$$ time and learning how to change it out.
Ah well...live and learn..

Jim, did you have the "new" style belt? Those Vegas's are awsome...the one I rode got the front end up going into 2nd gear:D .

Steve,
no, not the new style belt ( isn't that the one where you have to change out your sprockets?).
I think this guy just flat a$$ dumped the clutch and murdered the belt.
If, on the other hand, my belt WAS that bad....I'm glad it happened where it did. I stored it at my friend's place in Effie ( a Dyna rider) and he was pretty decent about not ribbing me too bad.
We went to high school together and I bought my first good bike from him....a 1966 Bridgestone 50 ( paid $100 for it in 1968 and took my endorsement on it in 1969).
Am I aging myself?

Hmmm,
interesting thought Sparky.....no, I still have the old sprockets on, but Keith had to install a new speedometer sensor to compensate for the new tranny.
I thought I had the new one. It's gears seem taller than the old one. I can scoot up to over 20 mph without over-revving in first gear. The old one I had to shift out of first after about 8 mph.
Keith could never tell me what vintage gears I had in there. I know it is taller geared in first for sure. But if the new belt only fit the newer style tranny....then I'm at a loss ( so what's new?).
Anyway, with this one I can lug down to an idle in third and fourth without the old "klunka-klunk" of the original.
In fact, since receiving this new tranny I have yet to experience any of the "bad" traits of the old.
As I write, it's beginning to thunder and lightening out.
Yea Spring.

Hmmm...that's what I thought too! The '99's were supposed to get the new rear pulley and belt as part of the kit because the front pulley on the upgrade is the newer style. Jim, that may have something to do with your belt breaking...might be worth checking out. But....maybe you got one of the last '02 tranny upgrades? First gear was taller in those too.

Jim- you might want to call tom at warners, i was in the other day to have my 500 mile oil change and tom was updating the trainie in a 99. He explained to me that all the trainie replacements came with the new updated belt and gears! Something to check into. Jim
