Hi everyone. We just got back from another trip out west. I had my 09 Kingpin Low and my girlfriend had her 06 Vulcan 900. Had a new tire installed before the trip. Every thing went fine until I noticed a nail while cleaning it in Coeur d' Alene Idaho. The tire had 4200 miles on it. it was 4 o'clock last saturday and we were leaving on sunday. Called the Vic dealer in Liberty lakes Washington who did not have a tire. Called the HD dealer and ended up with the D407. Rushed it to the Vic dealer and had it installed by 6 which was closing time. The tire handled and felt good. I would consider this tire again. The tire has the dual compound so we will see about the milage. Another note. If you happen to be cruising at 82 MPH with a head wind watch your fuel. She was riding the Vic and I her Vulcan . We both did not see the reserve lights and ran out of gas in ND on INT 94. Se had a little more gas than me and bailed us out. We were getting 45-50 MPG throughout the trip but dropped to 30-33 MPG at those conditions

We were getting 45-50 MPG throughout the trip but dropped to 30-33 MPG at those conditions I don't know what the normal Vulcan 900 mileage is, but seems like about 40-45 is average on the Freedom motors. I've heard various stories, but when I'm doing lots of 85 mph riding, seems like my fuel mileage is hardly affected. That's always surprised me.

I'll check back in on Sunday with some results.

Yea I was surprised to see those numbers also. It is possible we goofed up the actual total milage. On the way out we had similar conditions and the MPG was always over 40. Every time we filled I was either 1/10-2/10 of a gallon more than she was. . So I will be checking MPG again.

I have experienced a significant drop in fuel mileage when speeds are high and bucking a stiff headwind. Normally get around 40 mpg with my typical riding, but has dropped to 28 when facing adverse conditions. Going 90 mph into a straight on headwind will make my motorcycle run out of gas long before I think it would. Pushing it is no easy chore either.
