View Full Version : my complaint
Alright so I just figured I would post this and see if I'm being ridiculous here or if anyone else agrees. My one big complaint about victory is some of the prices for accessories clothig and various other things. I just find aftermarket stuff for victory to be so expensive compared to someother manufacturers...harley in particular. I assume this is a result of harley being around so long. The reason I bring this up is I was going to get my oil changed before my trip tomorrow and find it will cost me almost 90 bucks at the dealership. So I figured I would just buy oil and filter and do it myself. Well to buy the oil change kit alone is 60 bucks. My brothe in law gets filter and oil for about 25 bucks for his harley. Now I love my bike to aeath and wouldn't trade it for anyhing...I just wish a damn oil change didn't hurt the wallet so bad... just my little rant.
Okay I retract my statwment about the oil change. I've since talked with the guys at y shop and I had no idea these bikes used six quarts of fluid and that the oil and tranny fluid are combined. I reacted before I knew all the details...sorry bout that. However I will still say the high price of accesories still gets to me.

Yeah, the oil change does seem a bit high at first, but if Andy is doing it (Warner Outdoor) then you know that the clutch cable will be looked at and if there is anything out of sorts, he'll spot it right away. It's like getting a mini-physical for your bike every 3000 miles. I appreciate his expertise.
I agree on the accessories. But, I think you'll find that the longer Victory is around, the lower prices will go as more and more companies will start making Victory accy's. I do find that EBay helps. I was able to find a BrakeAway throttle-lock cruise for $182.00 (shipped) as opposed to over $250 at any given dealership.
Yea I think you're right about that. I have to sometimes remind myself that Victory has only been around a bit over ten years in comparison to Harley being around for over 100. Big difference. I think sometimes it just bums me out when I go to the Harley shop with my brother in law and he can find anything and everything he wants easily and I sometimes struggle to find what i'm looking for, and then end up paying more for it. Oh well, even with all that I wouldn't trade my 8ball for any Harley on the road.

Yeah, I know where you're coming from. Aside from longevity, it's also the # of bikes produced. Harley was making about 300,000 bikes per year, and that's on 3 frames. I think Honda makes ever more bikes than Harley every year. Not sure of their numbers for this year - I'm sure it's down but a lot. I've never seen Polaris release their yearly Victory numbers, but move people figure it's in the 5,000 to 15,000 range.
So, as an after-market parts manufacturer, which market looks better to you? Making a part for a softtail (100,000 per year) or a vegas (5,000 per year)?
Sell more bikes, we'll get more parts. So keep smoking your brother-in-law off the line and having the pretty girls at the bar tell you how nice your bike looks; and eventially he will buy your used 8-ball when you upgrade to the X-Country. :-)
