Ok, sounds like there will be a pretty good group going down.

Just wondering, who's going, what day, and where are you staying??

I'll be a the Four Seasons, as will a couple friends of mine that are not in the club. How bout everyone else?:bounce:

Swiffer

Pat, we're staying at the Four Seasons as well. Plan on leaving Friday early am, but wanted to ride with the group from here if possible. Anyone know what the plan is??? I see "check-in" is noon Friday at Wymers, and am planning on making it there by then. Lodging is filling FAST, so those who have not made reservations someplace should do so quickly!

Dean is fine with us leaving from Warners Friday am. Will that work with everybody?

How about some route ideas?

Swiffer
02-28-2003, 02:43 AM
Works for us! How 'bout taking 169 to 60 to 71 into Jackson, then into Spirit Lake? With a breakfast stop I'm thinking 4 hours from Warners.(don't quote me). I think this is the route we took last year.

Steve

BATMAN
02-28-2003, 05:03 AM
Sounds fine by me. If anyone lives west of the Twin Cities and wants to meet along the way, we can do that too.

What time do we want to be down there by, 11:00 or so? Have to check and see what time things start up in Spirit Lake. We'd have to leave by 7:00 or so.

sid2002
02-28-2003, 09:57 AM
Gosh this is exciting. My hands can hardly stay off the handle bars. I walk out in the garage and want to sit on the bike but resist and tease myself. The anticipation is driving me crazy. I can't wait May is so far away. We should have a lot of riding in by that time.

Swiffer
02-28-2003, 11:15 AM
I hear ya Sid! The anticipation is driving me nuts too. Pat, I think "check-in" at Wymers is at noon. If we left by 8:00 I think we'll be OK. Well, off to spit shine the bike just so I can get it full of all the bloody salt they layed down this year!

Steve

I'll be heading down to Spirit Lake around noon on Friday, and camping in that campground that's a mile South of the Victory plant. If anyone wants to leave near mid-day instead of the early am, and head straight down, let me know.

BATMAN

8:00 is fine by me. Maybe meet at Deans anytime after 7:00, take off at 8:00 sharp.

Ok guys, I talked to Frank from Wymer, (the dealer in SL) and I told him that I would remind you all to please call or e-mail him if you are planning on going to this event. They are trying to get an idea of how much food and stuff to get.

His e-mail is:

Hil and I were talking to Dean today and he was wondering if folks leaving Friday am planned on meeting at Warners, and if so what time. Sounds like others are interested in a Friday morning departure, and he would like to be able to let them know the specifics. Hil and I won't be going due to the work situation, but it's getting close so maybe it's time to get a time, etc together so everyone's on the same page? I know that check-in at Wymers is at noon, so 7-8am departure maybe? Some one PLEASE be sure to get LOTS of pics for us unfortunate ones that can't make it!!

Steve

BATMAN
05-09-2003, 03:42 AM
Ok, I suppose we should start getting orgainized. I suggest meeting at Warners anytime after 7:00, gassed up, and leave by 8:00. Sounds like we could make it down to Wymer's by around noon. I'll check with Dean and see if that's ok with him, since he normally isn't open that early. We also need to confirm a route, so people like 06shooter knows for sure and can hook up with us along the way.

So, first of all, who's going to be leaving on Friday am?

Second, any route suggestions? Maybe like Steve had said, 169 to Mankato, 60 to Windom, and 71 to Spirit Lake, the same route as last year?

I'll check with Dean today.

This is gonna be fun! Be nice to have a rough headcount everyone, let's see those posts!:bounce:

Inge
05-09-2003, 05:11 PM
Myself and a buddy will be at Dean's between 7 and 8, ready to boogie. Pray for sunshine.
As for the route, if we can afford the time, I vote we get off the slab as much as possible. I've been comuting to Fairmont lately, and the Hwy 169 and Hwy 60 route is getting boring. I recommend the west side of the MN River to Henderson or there abouts , for starters. The weather can play a big factor in our route selection. The 4 lane is nice for safety purposes.

BATMAN
05-10-2003, 04:34 AM
We can take any route we want, just need some suggestions. We could hook up to that part in Jordan, and take it down to just beyond Henderson, in Le Sueur. I was thinking of time. I guess we don't need to be there right at noon. I believe that's when check in starts, then I think there are plant tours from 1-4, with a group ride around the lakes after that. That IS an excellent little road Inge, you want to lead? If anyone else has some side roads they want to take along the way, just let us know!

Inge
05-11-2003, 11:47 AM
I would be happy to take the lead, as least for a portion of the trip. A couple of things to consider,
we'll be leaving Dean's at the tail end of rush hour, so we are sure to get separated right off the bat heading west. I'd like to take 40 south out of Carver through Henderson and LeSuer and get back on 169. We can stop and re-group in Carver. Then stop and re-group and top up at the SA in St. Peter. At that time we'll take a look at the schedule and consider one more cowboy run west on 99 to Nicollett and Courtland, and pick up Hwy 15 south to Hwy 60. If it looks like we are running behind at St Peter, we'll just stay on 169 to Hwy 60. From Hwy 60, head south on HWY 4 at St James and pick up I90 to Jackson. There is a big truck plaza at Jackson where we can top up and re-group and arrive en-mass at Wymers with throttles at full blip.
I'll ask my buddy if he would take the tail end and we'll stay in contact with cell phones if necessary.
As for breakfast, I'm open yea or nay. We could meet for breakfast before Dean's at the Dennys at 98th and 35W.

Let's hear from the rest of the group.

Choirguy
05-11-2003, 07:36 PM
As of today, I've verified that I will not be making the trip to Spirit Lake this time around (several appointments have set in concrete the last 24 hours). Perhaps I'll still get a chance to ride on the Catepillar, but we'll see.

through Shakopee on 169, Which way are you going from

Warners to Carver?

What do you think Inge, 169 past Shakopee, and then 41 to Chaska? Hook up with your road there?

sid2002
05-13-2003, 06:52 AM
I am truly having a "senior moment" what day date are we going to Spirit lake is it the 23rd. or the 30th.

sks700
05-13-2003, 06:54 AM
30th

Inge
05-13-2003, 08:21 PM
169 through Shakopee sounds good, that way we avoid all the stop lights on 212. That stretch down 169 will give the group a chance to coalesce should we get separated before that. Although, 169 has about 6 lights between 494 an the river.

What's the best route over to 169 from Warner's? Up to 494 and west might be the most efficient, in spite of rush hour, any other route that I am aware of has a lot of stop lights.

West on Hwy 13 from 35W is a possibility, it has 10 or so stop lights, . ( I know there is a lot east bound in the pm) Can any one comment on the Hwy 13 route?

Any ideas for a breakfast meet? Before or on the road?

I'm speaking of the Friday gig here.

BATMAN
05-14-2003, 03:16 AM
I would have to say no to 494 to 169, I think rush hour can be WAY to bad for a large group like that. (I do a lot of rush hour driving) I think even with the stop lights, down 35 and across on 13 is the route to take. We could re-group at that gas station on the northeast corner of 169 and 41. Then take 41 into Chaska, and head over to Carver from there. May even have to re-group in Carver.

As far as breakfast, Dean is going to have coffee and doughnuts, I'm fine with that, rather ride a bit empty anyway. Can't remember, is there any sort of lunch on Friday in Spirit Lake?

06shooter
05-14-2003, 08:05 PM
I would reccomend hwy 13 to 169 there are only 4 lights

before 169. As to breakfast stops
shakopee none close to off ramp

Jordan fast food only

Belle Plaine Tina K's -used to have great breakfasts, under
new owners havent been there lately. Limited space if
we have say more than 15 bikes and bodies

Emma Krumby's good food can handle large group
large parking lot and relatively large seating.

LeSuer nothing on hwy
St Peter has a County Kitchen Limited parking
Mankato Has a Happy Chef

Station on NE corner is a Holiday - SA on sw Corner
06shooter

Inge
05-15-2003, 05:28 PM
Hwy 13 sounds like the best bet to me, it helps us get out of town early on too.

Emma Krumbee's would be a good bet for breakfast, but that is off the hwy 40 route. For this trip I'd prefer riding to eating (eat before we leave), but I would certainly go with a group concensus.

Pat,
No, I have to work tomorrow. Been pulling 10 to 12 hours days all week. Up at 5:30, home by 8 pm ( insert violin music here).
If I don't have to work Saturday, Bobbi and I are heading up north. We had hoped to drive down to Spirit Lake but we haven't been home in weeks and need to take care of a few things at the house.
Hope everyone has a good time and be sure to post the pics!

Ok, I just read all the posts and have a few questions:
1) when is it for sure (I am thinking the 30th)
2) how far of a drive is it to Spirit Lake?
3) Is there anybody leaving Saturday and coming back Saturday?
- I recently found out that my position is being eliminated
in July and have since put restrictions on my spending
spending allowances.
4) If some people are going down Saturday, how could the new group hook up with the rest?
Thanks,
Ritt

Friday is almost here. I think I need to wash the bugs off my black before I can be seen in public.
I will be leaving between 6:30 and 6:45 from my house Friday. Traffic could be trouble trying to get to Deans so I think I will take 100 south to 494 and over to 35 then south to Deans. Anyone wanting to hook up let me know.

John, there will be folks leaving both Friday AND Saturday to head down. Haven't heard of anyone doing both ways in one day. Takes about 4 hours with a "munchie" stop along the way. I may try to ride as far as Mankato or so with the Friday morning bunch before heading back this way...we'll see. You guys are gonna have a BLAST! Sure wish I could do it, but there's NO way. Hey, I saw on the VMC board that Lloyd won't be making it this year...he apparently had something come up where he had to cancel all his scheduled events the rest of the year. Sure hope all is well with him:(

I got to thinking about the distance vs. time. It's about 185 miles to Spirit Lake, so throw in a couple of stop lights and a gas stop and I don't see any extra time for side tours or breakfast stop, providing you want to arrive by noon (which I do).
The first route that was suggested sounds like the best, Hwy 13 to Shakopee, down 169 to Mankato, gas up in Mankato, HWY 60 out of Mankato, Hwy 4 south at St. James to I90 over to Jackson, then down 71/19 to Spirit Lake.
If I end up on point, that's the agenda. keep it simple.

I am going to tie on the feed bag at Denny's (98th and 35W) about 6:30 am. then head over to Dean's.

This should be a great ride and meeting!

Nothing beats fun for having a good time.
