Finally got to give the Bub's a little run today. Wow, what a different sound without the crossover! Definitely a power loss too, but they sure do look good. Here's hoping that we get warmer weather again after this weekend!

I went out for a short putt too. Just had to hear how my new D&D slash cuts sound - like a real motorcycle!

Inge,

Are your D&D slash cuts as loud as mine?

What did you say? I can't hear very well
(Yes, they are LOUD. And I haven't yet taken the baffles out.
I'm hoping I didn't make a major tactical error here.)

No you did not!!!!!! I have drag pipes that I bought from Dean when I got my 2001 dlx. First thing I did was take out the baffles and never put them back in. Loud pipes are not only cool but they may save your life some day.

I don't think they have removable baffles...I looked through them before they were installed, and compared them to my Victory taper-tips (i.e. not stockers) and knew that they were going to be loud. There almost isn't anything in there! Arrgh!

I did e-mail D&D and ask them if they would consider making an additional baffle to be put in, and they said that they didn't have anything, but that they would consider it.

I love these D&D's, and I want to keep them. I just don't want to lose my hearing in the process.

No doubt, loud pipes are the coolest thing about driving an American V-twin. However, I have started to notice some hearing loss, just from old age. It only noticable when I get in a situation where there is a background din, like a restaurant or factory setting. From what I understand it is the low frequencies that cause the hearing damage. I guess I'll just have to keep the frequencies up by riding at high speeds! I also plan to try ear plugs. The trouble with those is most of them are made in day glo colors. Driving a loud bike wearing bright green ear plugs may not look too cool, but I'll figure something out. The odd thing is my helmet amplifies the low frequencies, the closed face much more than the open face.
I also picked up a heated vest and heated gloves yesterday, so as soon as the temperature breaks 40F again, I'll be on the road.

Inge - I hear ya (no pun intended)..

I am a Tintinitus sufferer and have a heck of a time hearing people in crowded places. Like the Mermaid the other day - I could only hear maybe half of what was said unless it was being almost hollered.

I have a good set of ear-plugs I bought years ago when I was doing a lot of flying. I need to start wearing them when I ride to protect what hearing I have left.

Like you and just about all of us - I love the throaty sound of a good well tuned V-Twin's bark!

I agree Thumper and Inge. I too like the sound of a finely tuned (I wish I had Thumpers chip) big twin, or pushrod V8, most notably #434 with it's cannons. But, even at my tender age (soon to be 25) I have a very hard time hearing in crowded places or even meetings. Unless I am looking right at the person talking, it is all muffled.
I have a physical tonight, and a hearing check is also on the bill.

On a side note, Thumper, I asked you some time back about my car chugging when driving (where I thought it was the TPS) and you said it sounded like an EGR. Well, I kept driving it, and the engine light came on. I stopped by AutoZone (where they check the code for free) and low-and-behold, his response was "Yep, it's your EGR." He flipped up the hood, showed me where it was and said I would have no trouble doing it myself.....
Every question I axe, you always know the answer to.

So, here is my next question: How do I make a million dollars?

I think this hearing thing is way over-rated. I have a real hard time hearing somebody as well, if I'm not looking at them(sometimes I think I'm reading lips more than hearing:eek: ) It doesn't bother me as much as it does Hilary. She thinks I'm not hearing her on purpose(I'd never do that:rolleyes: ). My problem comes from 20 years of not wearing ear plugs at work, so I figure why not have loud pipes? Geez, it's no fun riding when you can't hear the sweet music coming out the hind end of these bikes! Funny thing is, I do wear ear plugs at work sometimes now...but it's more to just shut-out everyone else there rather than to muffle the machine noise. Kind of like being in my own little world. Not hearing well has it's advantages too. I don't know how many times the boss asked me to work a saturday or sunday, but I just plain didn't hear him ask! Best part is, he stopped asking along time ago(I think...could be I'm just not hearing him ask:D )

........Well - first you pop the chip out of your Vic and read it on an EPROM programmer and then you figure out where the fuel distribution tables are and.... wait a sec... Tried it and it didn't work...

I dunno Ritt - but if I ever figure it out - I will be sure to post it here! ;)
