Coming home from the Caterpillar run, my TC started to make a noise I don't like. I also had a hard time down-shifting a couple of times. It is a rubbing sound that seems to be related to road speed. Greg and I tried to check it out yesterday some and see if we could tell where it is coming from. It sounds like it may be coming from the output shaft area. it doesn't seem to make any difference if the clutch is in or out. The oil level is good and it still looks like I just put it in.

Sound familiar to anyone? Clutch problem? Shift fork? Output bearing?

This sucks. I need to get it fixed for the saddlesore!

Was it a whining sound that was fairly constant?

I had a problem on my C that was from the front pulley. Basically the shims that line up the splines on the shaft and the pulley got deformed and it started to make all kinds of noise (due to the wobbling effect on the pulley).

From what I was told at the time, it was somewhat common. The fix was installing a new pulley.

It's more of a rubbing noise. I guess you could say that it sounds a little bit like walking in wind pants or something like that...lol. Like 2 things that shouldn't be contacting are rubbing in one spot as they rotate.

We pulled the front pulley cover off and everything looked ok there.

It's not the guard on top or bottom is it?

nope. Almost positive that it's coming from inside.

Sounds close to what I heard when Drive pulley nut worked Loose on my TC.
There should be a thread on the VMC about that problem,

My TC had this problem a few years ago. I had to replace the front pulley. There are extensive threads on this site that address that very problem.

Lee your talking about clutch problems and or shifting forks well my hammer started having problems and of coarse I thought it was me because of what happened to my 02. I took it in and the tech at Palmdale supercycles said there is definitely something wrong with your clutch. Some times it shifted fine, others it was hard getting in and out of gear. They pulled the thing and someone had put it together wrong. Two of the plates were reversed in the assembly and the spring tension was non existent. The thing is a monster now. When I jump on it my front end like has no feel for the ground at all. You know me I am scaring myself again. Anyway the shifting now feels like I have a new bike.
This may not be your issue but check out if work has been done to the innards and the clutch disassembled and reassembled.
