has anyone had any success with polishing up the alloys sideplates and covers on a SC? From the factory it seems to come with a lot imperfections and stains etc. I was thinking maybe 1500 wet and dry to get the patina off and then an allibrite polish. any other ideas or experiences out there.

If your talking about the engine covers I started out with 220 and a palm sander then 400 then 600 then a buffing wheel if you going to do it all by hand you will have to take a few more steps and get to 1500 before final buffing.

A little experiance here.
Kyle is spot on!
Not sure how far you want to take the polishing project?
Here is what I did for a couple parts on the VEGAS, I first used "Aircraft Stripper"(available at automotive paint supply stores) to remove the powdercoat finish. Then went thru a couple steps with sand paper ie: 220, 350 then 600 grit depending on the starting condition of the part being polished. Then rouge on a sissel wheel and then more rouge on a cotton buff wheel. When polishing for chrome, the polishing has to be as nice as you want the chrome to look.
Good luck with the project!!
