You know, maybe I'm crazy....(no comments, please), but since I got my Vic back it sure seems like the intake is louder. I get this clacking noise on throttle...sort of like a tiny hammer whacking a slate blackboard ( for lack of a better description). I guess I don't remember this being so loud. If I feather the throttle at highway speeds it goes away, but as soon as I give the 'ol girl a little gas the clacking begins and gets deeper in pitch as I accelerate. I know that the windshield deflects and amplifies tones back to the rider....but this sound gets very annoying and more intense in timbre ( is that right Chris?) as I slap on the miles. Some folks have told me that I have a knock....but I run 92 octane all the time. I guess I need to get the Vic back to Keith at Magnum and have him ride it.
Do any other '99s out there have this "clack"?
Just want my cake and eat it too.

Howdy Jim! Are you two all moved in yet?
I'd have to hear it, but you may be hearing the "intake pulses"(?) I know mine makes the same sound you're describing, and it's much louder with the air box off. It seems like the harder you throttle up, the louder it gets. I've tried different octanes of fuel and it always stayed the same so I know mines not a "knock". If you want, let's get together and you can take mine for a little spin and see if it's the same noise.

I was also noticing that sound recently. I was going to look for something loose under the tank or near the front. The other thing that I had thought of is that maybe my air filter needs cleaning/re-oiling. I wouldn't recommend this method to anybody,but...the noise has gone away since I hit that deer. Tightened up whatever was loose???

I haven't noticed any strange sounds with mine. Then again it seems like forever since I've been out. I'll have to listen for this the next time out.
Lee, you may have picked up a hairball. Before you go for your next ride, just reach under the tank from both sides and give her the ol' heimlich. That should get things back to normal.

I don't think this should be unusual. I noticed the same thing after I opened up the airbox on my Ducati. It produces about 80 hp, so it probably sucks about the same amount of air as a Vic.

What you described there is most likely the air box sucking air in, my 99 with the drag pipes on you didn't notice it because the pipes were so loud, when i put the modified stocks back on, the pipes were toned down, but the air box noise was much more noticable. After a while I actually grew to like the sound! Crazy huh! Jim
