Sorry - I meant for this to be in the Sept. 14-15 Ride topic but I screwed up!
================

I almost tried to join you guys (and gals?) on the spur of the moment by riding to Spring Green to see if you'd be there Saturday night, or just to enjoy the ride if you weren't. I had my TCVR shirt on and everything. The plan was to break in my "new" old BMW after a series of modifications, including new aluminum panniers.

Guess what? The service guy screwed up and drilled and mounted the wide box on the exhaust side and the narrow box on the side that should have had the wide box!!! Sheesh! The boxes were made-to-order and it took four weeks to get 'em. I was going to do my extended vacation on that bike this year. He's buying and mouting replacements at his own expense and not charging for mounting, but it's out of action for another four weeks!

Oh well.....guess I'll take the venerable Victory for the third year in a row.

I think we will have to try and have a Spring Green ride to meet up with you, how far is it for you to ride? Figured it would be around 350 miles or so for us. We didn't make it down there after getting wet, and the clouds hanging around, we decided to cut it short this time. Sunday was a beautiful day, so maybe we should have stuck it out, but it seemed the rain was going the way we wanted to go, so we headed back home.

Evidently the rain went the other way Jim, because it was wet in Central Illinois on Sunday. I'm not sure about the distance from Decatur to Spring Green, but think I can make it in 5 hours or so, or ride up on Friday evening and meet on Saturday around La Crescent or something.

Sometime in the next month I;ll have to take a long road trip to someplace out of my normal reach, or I'm going to go crazy.

direct point to point Decatur to Spring Green is 285 miles in its shortest (yuck) city edge to city edge.

Well maybe we should try and pick a weekend, Sid talked about doing a fall color run, this would be a good excuse for that! Cross our fingers and hope for decent weather, I don't mind cold as much as rain. Jim

Panneirs are sturdy, box shaped hardbags usually made of aluminum. They're used on so-called "Adventure Touring" motorcycles. The brand I bought are shown in this photo, except mine are powder coated.

I just placed images of the aluminum panniers I was talking about in my VicPic album bmw r100 gspd. The album is like a virtual tour of the stock bike and all the mods I made to it this summer. I took a long ride on it today and it's really a pleasure to travel on it now. Since buying my Vic, the BMW hasn't competed very well for my attention, but I think now it will.
