Is it mechanically better to ride the motorcycle in 4th gear at ~2800 rpms, or 5th gear at ~2300 rpms? I'm never sure if the higher rpms may be better for the engine. (this is the older 5-sp transmission)

Also, what octane gasoline do most people burn in their Freedom 92ci bike? I've heard anywhere from regular to 92 octane. The manual calls for 92 octane.
Thanks much..

I run mine in the higherst gear possible (but I have also been known to hit the redline quite a bit)
The highest gear should give yout eh best milage, unless you are really lugging the motor.

I run 87 octane which should be fine unless you get higher cimpression or wild cams..

Should I be running premium in mine then:Hehe: ?

I'm not 100% sure about my cimpression, but my compression is slightly higher than stock:BigLaugh:

I run premium, but I its because I have 10.5:1 pistons and it pings on heavy throttle in the lower rpms if I don't. Run the lowest grade of gas you can if it doesn't ping with it. To me its seemed that if you're on the edge it can be a function of temperature, less tendency to ping in cold air.

About cruising rpm, isn't there more friction between engine parts at higher rpm? I would think a higher gear would make your engine last longer.

Use 87 octane or 89 octane when the price is the same, can't hear or
document any difference ( gas mileage).

Have always heard and read you are better off in the highest gear.
Otherwise why have the 6th gear, now so popular.
