Hello all,
I am looking for a bar end to do some mods to. Has anybody put different grips and has one or two of these laying around? Any help would be great. Thanks!
I picked up #434 on Friday and very happy to have it back. I got it repaired at Bristow's (they owe me some free labor) and have since gotten yet an extra roadside assistance program..
I was talking to Roger their service manager, who at times seems to stand behind their vendors (ie...after-care, Polaris etc..) more so than their customer (we the owners of products)
He stated that being that I have the "Aftercare" warrenty, I would have to pay for all the labor to get the new transmission installed, because they will not pay for the bent shift forks. I looked at the wording of the agreement and it quotes "These are the only parts which are specifically not covered by this meical repair agreement:
---bent shift forks (Unless caused by a mechanical breakdown of a covered part)
The definition of a Mechanical Breakdown: the breakage or failure of a part (except those listed in the exclusions section on page 2 and 3) caused by a defect or faulty workmanship from the manufacturer making that covered part incapable of performing the function for which it was designed. The Identified vehicle will be covered only for Mechanical Breakdown which occurs in the United States or Canada."

Now I am not a lawyer, but when reading this, is seems that they are talking in circle.
When they say the part isn't covered unless is incapable of performing the function of which it was designed....well, the transmission as a whole does not perform as it was designed and Victory puts out the whole kit to correct this problem. To say the trasmission's problems as a whole are based on this fork thingie, I don't think Victory would sell it as a whole trasmission kit.
If that is truely the case, then I should only have to pay for the labor of the instalation of the shift forks and not any of the other parts correct?
What are you guys seeing with this?

Also, looking for bar ends....remeber the top of the page?
Thanks fella's!

John, you shouldn't have to pay for anything but your deductible for the upgraded transmission. I sure wish the dealers would all get on the same page when it comes to this stuff. Do yourself a favor and go talk with Dean and Tom at Warner's, you may never go back to Bristows again:D

Ritt - I am with Swiffer on this one...

Those shift forks are part of the transmission assembly and are replaced with the transmission is replaced.

Call Dean, Lindsay, Tom or Chad at Warners. Maybe they can help you out. They know their stuff and are probably the best there is when it comes to service and support of Polaris' products.. BigFoot should be done by the end of the week.

Then I can ride again! :bounce:

I am also looking for bar-ends as mine are both in bad shape from the wreck..

You should both consider getting Kuryakin ISO-Grips. Nice and comfy, and cheaper than new Victory bar-ends(unbelievable, huh?)

Actually Swiffer,
I am not looking for one to use as a bar end. I want to make a oil temp gauge like the one in the photo album in here, I forget who made it ?beck or byte maybe? and need the end to cover the guage after I cut a hole in it and rheam (sp?) it out. It would be nice if it would kinda match the bar ends, but it doesn't have to. Any end, as long as it either SS, more preferably chrome will work, as long as the face of the guage will fit in it. I always wanted to have a temp and pressure gauge on the pull back bars, but haven't found any decent mounts for them, other than CNC-ing them myself...and funds are kinda tight right now....

On another side note...Thump, you may be the man for this:
I have a 95 Buick Regal w/ the 3.8 and about 120k.
When slightly taking my foot off the throttle, or lightly depressing it (as in stop and go, to scoot ahead a few feet) the motor chugs. It isn't a sharp stuttor, but more of a chug. It does this at all speeds whenever I slighltly press or depress. It seems worse when the A/C is on and when it is hot and humid. You can see the "chug" on the tachometer.
I replaced the plugs and wires 2X in the last 30k, with the last time putting on a good set (~$45 from NAPA) of wires about 15K ago.
I replaced the Fuel filter, it didn't get better.
I took off the air box and it didn't get better.

Could it be the fuel pump going bad? Don't they usually crap out all together?
Could it be the wires?
Or is it some damn sensor, where I have to pay $130 just to find out what it is??

Any help is great!

looking for any bar end......remember the top? :o

Roughly 50% of the images in VicPic have been annotated and are searchable. I wish the percentage were higher, but this is a prime example of how it can work. Search for either "oil temp" or "gauge" in Captions, and you'll be taken straight to your answer.

Ritt -

Bar-ends from Victory are chrome plated plastic - just as long as you know..

Your car:

My first thought is a bad EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve.

Second thought is a (someone hold onto Swiffer) Bad TPS.

Third thought is a bad IAC (Idle Air Control) motor.

You don't mention how it works at half or full throttle, so I assume it is fine.
You also didn't say if the Check-Engine light is coming on or not, so I assume it is not. If any of the three things above go partially bad, the ECM will not set any codes (turn on the Check-Engine light). The EGR can go totally bad and the ECM would not know it on your car. The IAC would set codes if the ECM could not compensate the fuel mixture.

Make sure you don't have any unplugged vacuum lines and that your air-filter is clean.

BTW, the IAC is very expensive. The TPS is not too bad. The EGR is not too bad either. Check those vacuum lines very carefully.

If nothing else, it might just be a bad load of gas. Put 2 bottles of HEAT in it and see if it changes..

Thanks Thumper!
You were right, there are no warning lights coming on.
I forgot to mention, that when it does chug, if I take my foot all the way off the gas, or really hammer on it, it doesn't do it and clears instantly. It's not like the car is hoping around when it chugs, but you can slightly feel it in you trousers.
I does it at all speeds (so to answer your 1/2 and full thrpttle question) up, from 1 or 2 mph all the way to about 85, whenever I slightly press or depress....

It also has quit upon decelerating for a stop sign (only 3 or 4 times) in the last 4 months. I went to accelerate and found the car wasn't running. I put it in Nuetral, turned the key, and it started right up......

Thanks again!

EGR valve is what it sounds like, but I would not rule out the TPS either. I would like to tell you where the EGR valve is on your car, but they move it around from one year/model to another.
The TPS would be screwed to the side of the throttle body, much the same as it is on a Victory. They are usually adjusted to something like .5 volts at idle.

I am heading out of town to a race at Road America in Elkhart lake Wisconsin this weekend, but I would be happy to take a quick look at it next week if you want to get together.

That is a very generous offer Thumper that is much appreciated.
I picked up some wires lsat night and am going to swap them and see if it clears up. I will let you know asap if it doesn't. Next week is kind a pain for me, as I am gone Wednesday through Sunda, but we can talk about that later. Thanks again for the generous offer!
