Hi Joe, Welcome back in town.

My brother and I are planning to join you Sunday. He is a Viet Nam vet and is anxious to ride his new (to him) 92c. Want to meet at the Hoilday at what time?

ps. Do you have the proper wrench to remove the drain plug on the 92C? I understand that it takes a special large ellen. I got a oil change kit with the bike and I thought I would use it Saturday AM, get that baby ready to roll!

Hey Alan -

There may be a special allen wrench that is avaialable, but I have used a plain old 3/8 socket wrench (without a socket) and it works just fine.

Give it a whirl.

The only thing special about it, is that it is a big metric. Not special like you have to get one from Victory or anything. I have one, but I don't remember the exact size of it.

My bike is a 1999, 92c and there is a set of tools (std. Victory) came with the bike. If yours or your brother bike is 1999, it should have one set. Other than that, it is a metric wrench try not to use different one.

I believe that it's a 14mm allen wrench.
I might have one at home, I just bought a allen-head socket set from sears, but I can't remember what size it goes up to. I'll try to remember to look tonight.

I'm with Joegopher on this one. I have the 01 V92C Dlx, and all I use is the 3/8" socket wrench with a short extension. That way after she breaks loose you remove the wrench and the extension serves as a short driver handle. Easy clean up and keeps your hand out of the oil stream. :action35:

Kit and Joegopher, the '99's use an allen wrench not a 3/8" square like yours. The plugs are interchangable though and you can get the square drive one from the dealer.

I'll check the bike tonight to see if it has a square or allen plug. It is a 1999 92C, I didn't find the tool kit, must have gotten legs before the sale. :BeatsMe: I assume that the tool kit should be inside the right hand cover beneath the seat. Of course, I think I did OK for him at $4400.00 as it is. :devil1: He can order the tool kit from Victory parts. I just want to change the oil before we take off on the Sunday ride. :riding: :riding: :natur008:

I looked at what I have, and the largest allen wrench I have is a 10mm. Maybe buy a bolt and nut with a 14mm head. Then you can use a 14mm socket.

Damm good idea. A lot better than buying a 14mm allen for a 1/2 drive from Snap-On for $26.00. You might just put a weld on that bolt and nut for reverse use. But man I wish I had thought of that.

I used the Hex bolt with jam nut and it works good. I even welded the nut and the bolt heads together and then ground it down smooth. You just have to make sure it is jammed up really tight before welding.

I think the guy before me really reefed that baby down tight because my first bolt nut combo broke the weld before it came loose. :burningMa

Then after that first oil change on my 01 C, I found the intact tool kit under the side cover....DOH!

I think that the fact that Victory doesn't provide a tool kit anymore keeps them from traveling to the next owner! I still have mine from my 01 C. :devil1:

:( I tryed the nut bolt combo this afternoon. Unfortunatly the locked nut loosens when you try to remove the drain plug. It would work great for installing the plug. With no welder, I took off looking for a 14mm allen wrench. Sears, Home Depot, and local Hardware store later, no one has a 14mm size. Too big I guess.

I then picked up a 2 1/2 14mm bolt and stuck the bolt head in the drain plug and hooked up a vice grips to the bolt. The plug is so tight the vice grips would not hold  I gave up for the moment and retired to cool beverages for the evening. :TheFing: Hell with it til tommorrow, maybe i'll be stronger after a good nghts rest. :Zzzzzz: :Zzzzzz:

I will need to get it done before taking off tomorrow on the ride. :biker83:

Try using a couple of nuts to jam them together. Or look and see if anyone has a left-hand threaded bolt and nut. Use that to loosen, and the right hand thread to tighten. The ACE hardware in Robbinsdale might have left hand threaded bolts.

Have you tried just sticking the 3/8" square drive in there yet. It might hook on the flats and allow you to loosen it. You only need to do it once, then it's your brothers problem.

14mm is within a few thousandths of 9/16(.562). You might be able to find a left-handed bolt in that size, or even a hex key wrench.

Good luck!

Finnally found a 1/2 inch drive socket with 14mm hex at a automotove parts store fro 7.95. Popped the plug loose on the first try. Nothing like having the right tool. BTW, the copper washer was missing from the plug. Apparently why the plug was frozen so tight.

Thanks for all the input!

I purchase a 3 pack, 13MM, 14MM, 15MM for 7.98 at Autozone 9412 Lyndale Ave S in Bloomington. It is about a block from Warners. There is another Autozone at 7708 Brookland Blvd. as well. I would call before stopping, as I remmember, they had 2 packs of them when I bought mine. :D

Wish I could Alan, but I'm going to be working all weekend, so unfortunately I can't. I have 2 projects due on Monday, so it's going to be some long days ahead.

Next week however, I'll be rarin' to go. :biker83:

I really want to hear the performance exhaust on your KP.
