View Full Version : TCVR Shirts

Regarding TCVR shirts, I became a little ansy this afternoon, so headed to my local apparel provider, and visited with the artist who does all our stuff (for my high school choir program). I brought along Sparky's image, which is on the flyer [anybody using those?], as well as a picture of the "old" oval logo, and a patch of the new oval logo (they've switched colors from gold to silver).

The guy is going to get to work on a logo in the coming days...within the next 2 weeks (I told him it wasn't a "rush" issue, and we wouldn't make the POTP anyway). Here's the one suggestion I have:

We can keep the cost down with 3 colors if we eliminate the Victory V and replace it with the Engine V that was adopted by the VMC, and then "tweaked" by this company for use on our NCVMC shirts. If we go with the red "V," then that will be an additional screen.

I'm guessing that we're not going to sell a whole lot of these. Here are approximate start-up costs: $25 per screen; $12.50 per half-screen (logos on front of shirt).

3 colors will cost $112.50 for screen set-up (logos on front and back); 4 colors will cost $150 for screen set-up.

Each shirt (we'll need at least 12 ordered) will cost its own value, roughly $11 for a good-quality T-shirt; and then each screened color will cost roughly $1.25 per side (7.50 for 3 colors; $10 for 4 colors).

So, add all that up, loosely, as if there were 12 total t-shirt orders and figuring 4 colors...

$132 cost for shirts
$120 cost for printing
$150 screen set-up

$402 total cost

$33.50 per shirt--right in H.D. territory

If you've seen the VMC shirts I oversaw the creation of, you know you'll get what you pay for. The cost will go down with enough orders, and even more if there are less colors.

I am putting out this information now so we have a worse-case scenario.

Maybe Dan and I should team up so you get one pin with every shirt that you purchase. That would put the cost a little higher.

I don't need committments at the moment...not until we have a "finalized" image that will go on the shirts that everyone will approve of--especially Sparky_Bill, since it's his "borrowed" design.

I will keep you informed as I know more.

New update...we had a Pow-wow (hopefully no one is offended by that term) at Warner's today.

Our initial TCVR offering will be a shirtless pocket (for those of you who want one with a shirt, you'll have to wait for future offerings) with a large TCVR logo (seen in the upper left-had side of the TCVR window). Sparky_Bill would like to keep the red V, and as the logo is his "child" I have no problem with that. I will inform the artist, and I will let you know (and will probably post the photo) when the "example" is ready.

This logo could easily be printed on T-shirts, long-sleeve t-shirts, sweatshirts, and even jackets. We can decide later who wants what...I've been able to order single items in the past (you just need 12 screens at one time...doesn't matter WHAT is screened).

As always, more later!

I plan on ordering about 5 shirts (not all for me) so getting to 12 more should be no problem. Can others post how many they might want, this will be just a ruff count to see what the number can be as Chris says the price will come down significantly as the numbers go up since we have to split the set up cost over the number of shirt offered.

Chris, I will buy 2 or 3 sweat shirts. I like black sweatshirts, but the t-shirts can we get white? The black absorbs to much heat.

Here is the logo that will be used for the shirts. As of today, I do not know the prices for the shirts; that will be determined next week; and then we'll take orders.

I am going to try to insure that I don't lose money this time around; and I will also insist that all orders are accompainied by payment when I place the main order.

Thanks!

Chris, can I get white tee shirts?

Choirguy
07-05-2002, 08:47 PM
I believe that we'll be able to get any color of the rainbow, almost. I'd prefer that we keep them to a single color for ease of ordering, but I also know that some people want to order "KYSO," "Antares" and other such colors as we can get close to them. White IS cheapest, and is probably what I myself will be purchasing.

Again, I won't have prices until next week.

Dear TCVR Members,

Here are the costs of shirts (this is assuming an order of 24 total items):

T-shirts: $14.00
Long-Sleeve T-Shirts: $17.50
Sweatshirts: $28.00

The XXL charge, per item, is $2.00; the XXXL charge, per item is $3.00.

The price includes our set-up fees. If we do a second order beyond this run, we won't have to pay those fees in the future.

You can have just about any color you would like, it won't change the numbers (that would get too complicated, and it's already complicated with 3 types of apparel).

The price DOES NOT include shipping. Perhaps we'll have to have a Culver's run to distribute the shirts later, or we can make arrangements for shipping at a later date.

The design features a 5-color logo, as seen here:

http://www.victorymotorcycle.org/vicpicimages/4_1262.jpg

I will place the order on 7/24/2002 (Wednesday), so that gives you 2 full weeks (and a payday) to send $$ this way. Sorry, I can't order any t-shirts on "good faith," I've just had several hits to the credit card that I can't afford anyway (my truck required new ball joints--lower and higher--as well as U joints).

You can send orders to:

Chris Russell
8625 81st St S
Cottage Grove, MN 55016

At the time, I am NOT going to post this information on the national VMC board...this is a TCVR thing only. I also don't need a lawsuit from Victory because of the design.

Thanks!

Where it belongs??? I guess I am a confused Sparky here. I just came back from my drawer of about 30 plus Victory and H-D t-shirts and over 90% have the logo or whatever in the front. A couple have a dealers name in the back.

We talked about this one day at Dean's and thought that no one could see it if we had a vest on or jacket but could see it if the jacket or vest was open. But a design belonging in the back I guess would come from motorcycle clubs having their "colors" displayed on the back of their jackets and vests. I do not know if this is what we as "Twin Cities Victory Riders" want to portray.

Choirguy
07-10-2002, 11:41 PM
Hey Confused Jim,

The logo on the front is what an ad-hoc committee (including yourself) determined what would be on the shirts...the meeting occured at Warner's open house on Friday night...and Sparky, myself, Steve, and you were in on the discussion.

The reason for the logo on the back was that instead of having a small logo on the front and a large logo on the back, which would be cost prohibitive with the creation of 10 total screens plus a charge for printing each color on each side of the shirt.

In a future run, we can create the "small" logo and use the big one on the back. But, as the committee decided, due to costs (t-shirts would increase in price to nearly $20), this was the best plan for now.

Hope that helps.

Chris

Couple questions Chris. Do the shirts and sweatshirts run "large?" (to stretch over my growing belly) The ones you did before were great. And I'm just a bit (?) confused on colors, though maybe I'm missing something. What are the color options?
Thanks.

Choirguy

Pat,

I can only say that the sizes will likely be the same as last time, for me a XXL is a XXL, so I'm not a good judge if things run large or not.

As for colors, it's whatever you tell me to do. We have a lot of flexibility.

I've received orders thus far (verification) from:

We are lacking 10 orders to make the quantity we need for the prices listed earlier in the post.

All of the above sounds stellar. Let's meet at 6:30pm at Warners (I'll be arriving earlier to put my Victory on the trailer) and then head somewhere else for social time. I'll leave that decision to Sparky_Bill. Someone should tell Dean that we're coming.

I'm not sure what the freeway looks like at 6:00pm, Dan, but lately I've taken I-35W south (past 494) to the 94th street exit. Then you head Left (East) on 94th Street until you hit Lyndale (there are lights, and I don't think 94th extends past Lyndale at that point). Head Right (South) on Nicollet, getting in the Left hand lane, and turn Left (heading East) on 95th. Take the first road (Garfield) to the Right (South) and Warner's is right there on the Left hand side of the road.

Some people will head down Lyndale all the way from 494...I used to do that, too.

Another way to think about it is that Warner's is located on the other side (the far side) of the McDonald's that can be seen on Lyndale.

If you haven't been there, you're about to see the finest Victory dealer in the Twin Cities, service beyond belief!

Also, I will be purchasing 6 of the pins (traditional style) so count on that!

Steve, there probably won't be a run on these shirts again until next year. If there's a money issue and you need to post date a check, let me know. They won't be finished and delivered until after Sturgis [i.e. I'll be out of town], and I won't be cashing checks until then.

Since that is being left up to me, I am asking where you guys want to go, speak up and make suggestions. I think the place is Toolie's that is a bar and resturant on Hwy 13 near 35W that the ride to Spirit Lake ended the year Dean lead 40 bikes there. Also is the place Lee and I took the new 2002 out to and stopped for a picture op. I posted that here I think back then.

I will wait for the suggestions for other places down there and we can hash it over at Dean's.

Pat and Tom,

I'm sorry...this is the first that I logged on today, and the order has already been brought into the screening place. I finalized the order last night after the get-together at Warner's, and brought it in first thing this morning. I won't have time to get to the screeners again until next week, and by then they will have already placed the order for the shirts I gave them. Tom, hopefully white will be okay; Pat, you'll have to wait with Swiffer for the next run, I guess.

I'll admit this...it was a living hell to get all the colors and types of shirts put together in a fashion that was understandable for the screening place; next time we go with 2 options and 1 color. That will make it easier (i.e. t-shirt, long-sleeve t). There really wasn't much call for sweatshirts (4 total?).

We'll see what happens when this printing comes back; if there is additional interest above 12 total shirts, we can put in another order. We'll have to figure out some way to make the screening fair; the people who "went in" on this first run absorbed all of the production costs, whereas future runs won't have to pay as much...so it seems to me that the "first on the block" are punished as a result. We'll have to talk that one out. As I've said, I'd like to see the logo digitized; perhaps future runs can contribute in a limited way to a "kitty" for that project. We'll see.

Like your ideas. Hows this for a suggestion. Future orders pay the same as the first batch and the extra amount goes to the fund to get the logo digitized? Question, what do you mean digitized? But could be put in a fund for other start up costs. I am really looking forward to these shirts. Thanks for all the work you did in getting this organized, Chris.

What do you mean digitized?

I believe this is the correct term...if you want something embroidered by a machine, a graphic artist needs to take your original picture and then place "puncture points" where the embroidery needle needs to sew, for each color.

The nice thing about embroidery is that you can have 10 colors and the price is the same; a 10-color screen would be a huge financial hit, because they have to overlay a different screen for each color. In the case of embroidery, it's one map.

I'll check out what the cost of such a task will be when I pick up our shirts, whenever they come in.

Sparky_Bill
07-26-2002, 04:57 AM
Okay I understand now but I am sure it is not digitized. Any picture you send via the internet is digitized. A digital image is made up of digits ones and zero's, computer language. But for the life of me I can not think of the term to discribe the process you refer. I know of programs which take digital pictures and make a needle point, cross stitch pattern from. That would be very simular. I have seen sewing machines at the State Fair that giving a picture on a disk can do it. Wonder what the set up would be now you have a very clean picture to work from.

Framy_Jim,

Simply posting on the site here didn't get anything reserved for anyone...Sparky_Bill once asked for a general count so we could shoot for a pricing range. If I didn't receive money from people, I didn't place the order. That's because I ended up losing money on the last batch of t-shirts (NCVMC shirts), and I didn't want that to happen again. I wanted money upfront.

So, you're in the ranks of Pat and Swiffer who will have to wait to the next order...and all we need are 12 shirts to make another run. So, if each of you purchases two shirts, we're halfway to that next order. Stay tuned.

Chris, how about this idea. Use the image you want and have it printed on to iron-on transfer paper. That way the cost is much cheaper, and folks can transfer the image onto what ever item they want. Family does this for our annual reunion tee-shirts and it works well and is most cost effective.

Justa thought

To those who ordered late, I can sell one of my new tees. I have 1 more than I need. It is an XL white. I also have an XL black from the first printing that I have never worn. The new one is full price. The collectors shirt (black one) is ten bucks. First one to respond here can have one, and if no one else wants the other he can have that too.

The image is available earlier on this post, as well as at the VicPic site. They do sell iron-on transparencies for ink jet printers at almost any computer store, and anyone is welcome to use that logo at any point. As for myself, I appreciate the high quality that comes directly from a screening process. I've had iron-ons crack, peel off, etc; where as everyone one of my screened t-shirts from this company is holding out incredibly well...some over 5 years old at this point.

Like I said, people are welcome to do what they would like. I can check into the ability to screen onto an iron-on; I don't know if this company can/will do this. I also don't want to be carrying "inventory" at any point. I'm certainly not a "TCVR store" although I know that Sparky_Bill was willing to order a few extra if we couldn't meet the original order of 24. I think it's pretty amazing that they are willing to run screens in quantities of 12 or more; most companies will require orders far greater than that.

By the way, Tom, Dean at Warner's still has 2 Large NCVMC T-shirts for sale, too.

They look good, too. We might be in trouble with Victory, because their logo actually looks better than it does on any Victory shirt I've ever purchased.

Sparky_Bill...forgot to mention one thing...the graphic artist put a thin ribbon of gold around the outside of the logo, so that it would work with those that ordered blue or black shirts. It looks good; you'll be pleased.

Tom Z, I managed to switch your order to gray shirts, you should be happy.

Pat, you have your choice of a gray or white XL t-shirt; let me know which as soon as possible. Whichever of these you don't want, I'm going to give to Dean at Warner's...he's been great with me, especially following the accident. By the way, I'm going with Champion bags now...I was sick of National Cycle's customer service (or the lack thereof).

Only one screw-up in the order, Steve Stoddard's Black sweatshirt came as a blue sweatshirt. Steve, I'll be in touch about this, you can take the shirt, we can correct this in the next run, or I can eat the loss. I can't tell whose fault it was, because the document I made for the screener was overwritten somehow by the document I made for my own use--so I don't know if I accidentally wrote blue, or if it was their mistake.

So, how shall we distribute the shirts? Especially for those of you who live beyond the cities...

They were not able to order talls from any of the manufacturers. So, per our discussion, I orded XXL for you, and plain old XL for Mr. Hawk. So you can incite shrinkage. Go find some icy water, and go wading... (well, I'm sure you're wife wouldn't go for that...but you know what I mean).

Seriously, I'm hoping that I heard right. Wish we could have provided the XL-T, but it just wasn't an option.

How about a t-shirt drop-off connection on Friday of this week at Warner's? After work for you guys that are working (I begin next week again), perhaps 4:30-5:30 (I can't remember how long they are open, but I can wait outside if they're closed)

Was up in Fridley yesterday...drove past Chopper City. I want to take that Victory sign down (and put it into my trunk...and...).

Sounds great.... how about we plan on stopping somewhere for food and conversation. I really enjoyed our stop at Toolie's the last time. It was myself, Tuba, Dan and Kit.

If anyone wants me to pick up their shirts from Tuba that can't make it down there Friday, let me know HERE so Chris can bring them. Then you pick them up from me if you are in the NW subs.

Jim (mrhawk), in reviewing orders before cashing the check, I found that I made a mistake with your order, too. I've got 2 black t-shirts and a grey long sleeve t-shirt, and upon inspection of the check, I messed that up (it was supposed to be the other way). I did NOT cash your check, and will have it for you on Friday. I'm so sorry. If you're interested in any of the three items, let me know. As it stands, that makes four mistakes...the company messed up Steve Stoddard's sweatshirt order...that wasn't my fault.

See you tomorrow night!

Chris, if Jim does not want them I will buy them from you. That is the three items Jim ordered. The company should fix Steve's order at least on our next order.

First ~ I want to thank Chris for the shirts.!!!!!!!!

Next ~ I want to thank Bill, Dan, Don, Kit and my hubby Jim for escorting me during my maiden group ride; I had a blast but it was a little scarey riding Hwy 100 on the way home in the dark.

Lil

P.S. No thanks on the nipple inserts ( hehehehehehe)

It was a pleasure riding with 'yall last night as well. Chris too bad you had to cut out early - thank you fo the shirts once again.

Lil - I am glad you had an enjoyable first time out. Learning to ride in group with a lot of "cages" around you is invaluable. It makes you a bit nervious and more alert of your surounding, which is a good thing, and only enhances the experience later on when you find that you and the rest of your pack are the only ones on the road.

I am sorry about nearly taking you down the wrong way off Excelsior Blvd. What a shock that was to find on crossing the bridge over Hwy 100, a sign saying "North Hwy 100" was a do not enter, traffic coming at me. I can recall any other place I have found that the next road to the after going over a bridge was not the ramp down to the Hwy.

Yes LilV that trip up 100 in the dark is bad. Only time it's worse is when it is dark and pouring out. Now you have something to look forward to.

Here is the rest of the story.

The way Lori Barghini tells it, she joined the ranks of great American inventors after a night bouncing around that avenue of dreams and sleaze, the Vegas strip. "We were all princesses, getting ready to go out, drinking a couple of Miller Lites," says Barghini, a sales and marketing type from Minneapolis, "and my girlfriend Shirley comes prancing out of the bathroom, with these little round lids from the Treasure Island giveaway shampoo bottles stuck inside her tank top." The plastic bottle caps made Shirley's bosom look like she'd just walked out of a freezer. To the world, they shouted "Hel-loooo, boys!"

Thus came about, read all about it.

You can see I was not making this up.

Something occurred to me today about these shirts. Besides feeling like a walking beacon when I'm wearing it, they come pretty close to having a full size built-in bib! The only place that's not covered in pretty heavy plastic is the exposed parts of the globe in the center of the emblem.

Way to go Tuba! Not only is it a good shirt, but it's cross-functional for picnics, buttered corn on the cob, and stuff.
