Guys and Gals,

I have a line on an outfit that makes custom pins for, what I think are reasonable prices, and I was wondering....

Earlier talk on the unmentionable message board we discussed the possibility of having pataches made up of the TCVR logo. I went so far as to design an alternitive version that Sparky kindly posted there. (I guess it died along with the old board)

Now either logo would make a fine pin, however , I only have access to my original artwork. If anyone is interested I can have around 100 made up with my design or I could reproduce Sparky's original, or Sparky could provide the original art work - whatever way we go the pins will be on me.

Let me know what you think.

Here is a reminder of my design:

I kinda like that idea of a pin. I would get a couple.

I would like a couple too. It's VERY generous of you Dan, but I'd feel better paying for them. You going to be able to make the run this weekend? Maybe part of it? Seems like a "coons age" since we've seen you last!

The pins with our logo would be a great idea. I can provide the original in a higher resolution for reproduction. I am not sure what you mean when you say "on you" but I believe that there should be no cost to you. If you take on getting them made then figure the cost and price according. But this will have to come after this weekend as I am not packed nor the biked washed from last weekend's run.

Sparky: That would be great, when you are ready send me the artwork and I will make the arrangements. When I say the pins are "on me" I mean that in the traditional sense of the word. I will pay for them.

I had another thought that we could put a supply of pins attached to business cards with this web address on it in dealers could give new Vic owners as an advertisement.

Steve: I am unsure if it would be legal for me to sell the pins since the design incorporates an image copy written by Polaris.

As for the run tomorrow I may be able to go as far as Garrison. I have relatives in town this weekend so my priorities may be decided for me.

I am no lawyer Dano, but from what I learned in "Law and Economics" (if it still applies) as long as a person does not profit from a copyrighted widget, it is legal. Kinda like the rules for skalpers (sp?) in Minnesota...

Great idea Dan! But, like Steve and Sparky, (and everyone else I'm sure) I'd be more then happy to pay for um. Put me down for 2.

I'd be in too..but like the rest I think that we should spread the cost around.

It would be great if you could ride part way with us. There are a few others that will only be doing a portion of it to.

Even a piece of the Caterpillar Run is better than no Run at all.

I agree with Steve when he says "I'd feel better paying for them". And I agree with John when he says "as long as a person does not profit from a copyrighted widget, it is legal." If it would make you fel better, you do all the leg work as you know what you are doing and I will write the check and we can just charge people for what COSTS we have in them. We are not trying to be a club in compitition with "Victory". We are just owners promoting their product.

I actually want to see one hundred pins on Dan. After that I will make a donation to the cause and take a couple myself. Then I will put one on me. Thanks for doing this Dan.

Dan this sounds like a great idea and appears to be very well received. I agree with the others though when it comes to bearing the financial burden of such a generous offer. I would like to get a couple pins also. If I can help in any other way, either with the pins or the card idea, let me know. I've got a printer, some card stock and access to Quark to make quick work of the cards if that'll help. I'll be around town this weekend also. I have a few Grad parties to attend this month so I won't be able to stray to far from the home base. For all those that are going this weekend, have fun and ride safe.

Dan,

When you get a chance, let me know who these people are. I've been wanting to have some special pins made for our gradutating seniors for some time, and haven't thought to investigate it further...especially since prices seem pretty high on the average.

Tuba,

The outfit is called PINMART and can be reached by phone at 877.746.6278 or on the web at pinmart.com.

From the web and a catalog I received the quality looks top knotch. They use several different processes, the least expencive is a print process with an average unit cost of $.80 to a Cloisonne process where they fill "wells" in the design with colored enamel at a unit cost between $2.50- $3.00.

Any design that can be photo reproduced can be used and there is a minimim of 100 pieces per design.

I have not done much shopping around, but I thought the cost is reasonable. When Sparky gets me the higher res art work I will place an order.

Hope this helps.

Hi everybody!

I am expecting the TCVR pins to arrive by the end of this week, if any are interested.

I will be riding to Hinkley this Saturday and hope to have some on my person there.

BTW: Steve and Bill, what happened to my original thread on this subject?:(

As of 13:30 CST the pins have arrived. They look good, a bit smaller that I imagened, but nice quality non the less.

This is of interest to all. Dan's post that he THOUGHT was missing is just a feature of this board. It hides all messages beyond 30 days. You need to go to the writing in the red below the forums and change the 30 days to a long time so it will so ALL threads not just the one that had activity in the last 30 days.

Another way is to do a search on a key word. When you post to an old thread it will come to the top again.

How much are the pins? I will find you there Saturday.

I merged your new TCVR pin thread with the old one so do not bother to look for the old one but DO try it out on old threads by changing the 30 days to a longer period. Or try the search feature.

I see my mistake, thanks, Bill.

The unit cost for production is $1.73

I figure that legally I can not make a proffit so the highest I can charge is the unit cost, but making change on $.73 is a pain.

With that in mind I think an even buck would be fair.

Toughts?

Legal, schmegal...

Dan, let's make this easy on you...

I'm guessing that you're going to be stuck with a number of pins, and you've also invested time that you won't be paid for, so here is my suggestion to help you with that...

2 pins for $5.00, with the added idea that if someone wants them mailed, they can send you a SASE. [we will need your address]

I think that's fair; we all have $5.00, and we'd pay that for a single pin at any other time.

If you start making money on the deal, then you can put the money toward another TCVR endeavor. I want to try to get the logo digitized, in two sizes, for embriodery; that's a spendy process.

By the way, everyone, get those T-shirt orders in! Don, I haven't had a chance to return your call yet, but I will (finals week of summer school, "finals" meaning gargantuan papers).

Well my thought was $1.75 and you can take the two EXTRA cents and put into a jar at any place that has a jar for a charity. But if you like Tuba's idea better, your choice. Just let me know before Saturday.... smile

Please specify the quanity and style you wish. I have the orginal logo and the version I did.

I will also carry around a supply with me for those I run into in person.

Chris, we need to hook up so I can order the shirts from you. Are you riding the Hinkley thing this Saturday?

Sorry Bill,

I was repling to Chris as you were repling to me so I did not see your message until after.

Let's split the difference between the two suggestions and call it $2.00 each or $4.00 for 2.

Sound like a plan?

First on my block to own the new pins. Had to run a few errands so I swung by Dan's, chatted for a while and plunked down my cash for 4 pins (2 of each style). Nice detail and boy do they look sharp on my vest. Thanks for the idea and the follow through Dan!

Dan,

We missed the boat with this one, as the perfect opportunity was on Wednesday night, but Dean at Warner's was interested in buying a few pins.

He's heading down to Florida this weekend for the unveiling of the new Polaris products, including the new Victory. He should be back by Tuesday of next week, I think.

By the way, I think the link doesn't work because the suffix needs to be .JPG instead of .jpg. VicPic may be case sensitive.

v92sc_065
07-26-2002, 06:56 AM
RATS!

We was stand'n right there too.

Well in light of what Dean was saying about Heinens possible pull out of the motorcycle division of Polaris, I think I will be returning to Warners real soon.

BTW the case on the extension JPG did the trick.;)

The price hike was the attempt at humor. The fact I was layed off last August was, unfortunatly, the reality. I have temp employment working set construction for Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, but it does not pay too well. I will probably be back on the public doll come the end of April.

He has offered to take the remaining pins of the orginial design off my hands and become the source for future supply. I have 38 of the original design left. I also have 73 of the second design left as well. Total 111 pins.

John Ritter - I can do a lot of things. At the time of my unemployment I was working as a Voice Telecommunications Project manager for EDS. EDS was more concerned with the Data side of the house and they let a lot of business slip by when they ignored the Voice side. Their loss. I am a fully trained telephone and PBX tech with PMP project management background.
