Does anyone have any experience using any local chrome platers for bike parts? I hate to ship parts across the country for something I can have done right here.

I brought the passenger peg mounts from my Vegas to Polish To Chrome. They're in St. Paul just off Rice St. I should get them back next week. I'll let you know how good their work is.

If it's good, I got a bunch of work to give them!

The place ThumperW is talking about, I believe, is J & D Plating. They are reasonably priced and have quick turn-around, but their chrome is not the highest quality every time (sometimes it seems very good, other times not so great). The OEM chromer for Victory, I believe is AIM, from Iowa somewhere. Someone else here may have a better idea where. They are high quality, but slow.

Lee, the place I went was actually just a metal polishing shop on the lower North-End of St. Paul. They took the old, grubby looking steel peg mounts that I really didn't think would abount to anything, and turned them into a work of art!

After he gets done polishing down to 2,000 grit, he sends them out to be plated. When I asked him who he used for plating, he mentioned Superior and one other company that didn't ring a bell.

The chrome plating was fine. He said that the only do a 2-step plating, 1 nickle and 1 chrome. Some places put a first layer of copper down below the Nickle, but in this case it wasn't needed.

I'm really happy, thouse the price was $5 higher than the prices posted on the VMC forum last week. I'll pay 10% to keep it local.

Is the actual name of this place "Polish to Chrome"? I have a project I'd like to get chromed.

It's a statue of Sparky_Bill I'm installing on my front fender...hair flowing in the wind!

(no, just kidding about the Sparky_Bill statuette. Although, that might be interesting)

Yup. It's on Atwater street in St. Paul about 2 blocks West of Rice Street. They're on DexOnline. John's the owner. When I was there on Tuesday it looked like he was really starting to get busy! One guy has some bumpers for a 57 Chev that were probably going to take him 12 weeks to get back. Luckily, I have my brake promised to me by the end of the month (can't wait)!

Good luck chroming Sparky's... um... er... head?!? :SouthPark

Chris, that's the guy that does all of my dads stuff. He does the polisheing, then sends the parts to J & D for the chrome.

John, I didn't want to reply back in February because you said local, but no one has replied about a plater who does good work AND is fast. I dropped a part off at this company on a Monday and recieved the finished part in the mail on Thursday the same week. I only used 'em once but they did a good job.

I talked with my friend that owns Slipstreamer. They make windshields for all makes of bikes, and they use AAA Metal finishing. Their phone number is 651-225-4152. Ask for Raul, and he can set you up.

I am going to start with a rear sprocket and see how they do.

I looked them up and it says:

Either phone number should work. :git:

Anyone have an update on getting some chroming done?

I have my saddlebag brackets to start on. Maybe more to follow if I can find someplace with good quality and cost effective.

It's a long story how I know this guy, but John Colton owns JR Custom Plating in Forest Lake. Phone number is 651.464.0761. He chrome plated a small, metal "clutch lever" for me that I have on my keychain. (I haven't seen it finished yet. I see my girlfriend Donna in two weeks, who works with John's girlfriend Liz... told ya. Long story.) He's been in the business for a while and used to own J&D Plating with his ex-brother-in-law. They went their separate ways in 2006. He says he's working about a month out right now.

John at Polish To Chrome is St. Paul. Just North of the railroad tracks near Como and Rice street.

$700?!? Did ya tell the guy at AAA that he didn't have to polish all the teeth on the pulley? :sarcastic

If you get the pulley chromed, you've gotta make sure they don't chrome the teeth. The extra thickness of the chrome will mess up the fit with the belt.

Yeah, I told him that all of the teeth would/should be masked.

On Thumper's graces I went to Polish to Chrome to drop off a Backrest insert I made.
The hours are little different
6am to 2pm I believe? But the place next door took the part and gave it to John of Polish to Chrome.
I got a hold of him today - he is about a month out and it going ot charge fiddy for the Chrome.
Seems nice enough.

You might give Brown's a call. They are not local :Butt: an outstanding chromer. My KP rear pully was done in about 3 weeks and cost $141.00 plus shipping. Chrome job is far superior to stock Victory. I was not satisfied with some work done at Polish To Chrome in St. Paul.
